Fixed! Thanks Aziz
THC makes my heart race.
Everything that boosts dopamine helped my negative symptoms, mainly LDOPA. But at the cost of worsening of positive symptoms. Maybe some ppl have genes that make them psychotic when using THC, I have these genes.
Maybe from the paranoia? THC makes me catatonic.
Cannabis has a wierd effect on me but it doesnt make me psychotic. I find it surprising someone without sz can smoke it and become psychotic and kill their own mother (in one case I remember) and myself with sz can smoke a lot of it and just sometimes feel anxious and have wierd thoughts. Cannabis use definitely destabilizes me over time but doesnt directly cause psychosis in me
Hey @Ribbon , for my experiment I mostly used a Sativa product. I was uncomfortable on a strong dose (feelings of losing control) but felt good on a light dose that I vaped when needed for chronic pain or anxiety flare-ups every 3 to 5 hours as needed. Obviously no driving or operating machinery, etc.
Letâs not forget that I did become delusional for about 3 weeks + - as a direct result of cannabis use but recovered from that.
My original motivation was pain management. An unexpected benefit was mitigation of my negative symptoms.
When I was younger I would smoke weed and laugh my ass off, but it slowly went from euphoria to anxiety. Iâve tried using THC since developing schizophrenia, joints, bongs, edibles, etc⌠all I get is this feeling throughout my body that is not very pleasant, almost like the physical manifestation of paranoia. Itâs hard to describe but I donât like it.
Iâm glad it works for you but for me THC is a no go. I donât use it medicinally or recreationally. Itâs been years since I smoked it. Like you said it effects everyone differently.
Good post @Headspark . Thanks.
Yeah not gonna lie, I smoked a small amount just couple days ago, just experimenting I guess. I didnât enjoy it much.
I understand that people replace pain meds with marijuana, the other is addictive.
I donât get high anymore, just numb. And my brain gets slower. Then I just past out after a fewâŚ
Itâs very legal in my state, but I think there still are stigma against people who smokes it in the street and reeks of reef.
It seems to me (just anecdotal) that they walk sort of slow too.
puffs on his vape
Neat!
I use occasionally. Iâve got a 1:1 thc/cbd pen. It seems to be a good combo for me. I canât use high potency stuff.
You must be brave and desperate trying weed. Iâm glad it helped you.
If I smoke weed I get âpsychotic anxietyâ, in my case cannabis is a living hell.
Instead i used opium poppies for my depression, and they were very helpful for 9 years, but suddenly i became very addicted, had awful withdravals and ended up in my current âopioid maintenance program.â I will never touch poppies again.
Glad to hear youâre finding good results, @Unclehenry
Iâve been super curious about using cannabis while on Abilify. Like thinking maybe the AP will block out some undesired effects (paranoia, psychosis-like symptoms, etc.).
I mainly want to use it for recreational purposes, plus the added bonus of weight loss-- I dunno why, but weed makes me lose weight, and I could stand to lose a few 40lbs or so.
Medicinal is legal in my state, so I would just have to find some way to get a card. Thereâs a dispensary in my city, so thatâs easy enough.
I will say that the last time I smoked, I developed temporary psychosis for around 4 hours-- weâre talking intense paranoia, hallucinations, and all that fun stuff. I was in a bad place mentally and unmedicated, so I wonder if that could be the reason why.
Either way, Iâm happy to hear youâre having success
Cannabis does help with pain. I had a medical card back in the day and I met a lot of people who used it for pain.
At one point I was a daily smoker. I donât smoke anymore. What I did notice is that cannabis from the 90âs to now is way more potent. Last time I smoked, the bud didnât have as much THC as what I would smoke before. Potent cannabis can bring on psychosis for me. The lower THC cannabis I smoked without any problems.
This was a few years ago. I actually found a pack of joints that were similar to a pack of cigarettes at a smoke shop. Cannabis does have medicinal uses. On Invega I could smoke all day and be fine, on abilify I didnât enjoy it as much and was more prone to paranoia.
Weed is awesome. Itâs the best thing for my schizophrenia next to meds & exercise
The general feeling of dislike for the plant on this board is really uncalled for. It doesnât work for everyone so everyone shouldnât use it.
Happy 420
Giddy-up
Good to hear @anon99082702 . Glad to see this topic enjoy a balanced discussion that reveals the complexities, benefits and costs / risks inherent in cannabis use by people living with schizophrenia. A low dose has been helpful to me. A high dose triggered delusions.
I started smoking marijuana after I broke my neck. I find the same thing, low-dose usage, such as just a puff or two at a time, helps my pain a lot and elevates my mood slightly.
I find Edibles even more effective with physical pain. Like you say, itâs not for everybody, but it works well for me with zero side effects
My negative symptoms were really bad when I was on Risperidone. I couldnât get out of bed for months nor could I stop thinking about suicide and visualizing myself doing it. Then I was switched to a maintenance dose of Abilify which resulted in an incomplete improvement in my negatives. I decided to try cannabis to deal with my chronic pain caused by a spinal injury - for which it worked superbly. It was an unexpected benefit to get relief from negative symptoms (schizophrenia). In my opinion the main culprit in stealing my quality of life has been negative symptoms. Avoid strong doses of THC. Donât be tempted recreationally to take a strong dose. A light dose is what works for me but it may not work for you. Everyoneâs different.
Wonderful to hear @Cragger.
My problem is that i find it habit forming.
Also, usually I use weed without thc cuz itâs like 15% the cost of the real stuff.
I have had severe insomnia since a child. When I went to Amsterdam in Holland where Cannabis is legal, about 30 years ago when I was on holiday. I used Cannabis just for fun and I slept really well and it didnât cause any mental problems. I did try Cannabis again in the UK, but it only made me feel sick and feel weird. I think that legal Cannabis can be different to the stuff that people buy off the street in the UK.
