The study was done on major american companies by a British firm.

Article required a subscription for me to read, but without reading the article, I would guess it might have something to do with people getting used to Covid or it seeming to have less of an impact these days? From what I recall there was a huge bump in working remotely when Covid first hit hard.

Anyway, thats my guess as to why.

Yeah, its largely because companies want office work

My daughter is signing a contract next week for a remote work job that starts as soon as she graduates from university. She’s already working part-time for them remotely and they want to lock her in and keep her. I have a permanent remote work contract as well. My company did recall some employees after covid, but I was exempt. About five different managers specifically tried to suck me into their branch and all failed.

Im gonna try make good relationship with my thesis advisors when i get to fourth year so that i can try to get a remote job with my current uni. Its one of the reasons i chose not to do a masters at a physical university and decided to do an undergrad all over again

Part of this is bad managers. Another part of it is boohooing by civic leaders, downtown landlords, and downtown businesses that relied on people being forced to travel en masse to downtown offices to work. We should be encouraging more remote work for the sake of the environment and those downtown office towers should be converted to affordable housing.

I havent thought of converting the office space into housing. Thats such a good idea - theres shortages everywhere - it would make a lot of sense. Greedy buggers

The commute times are terrible in places like the SF Bay Area, CA and Austin,TX where a lot of tech companies are located. The only way many people can afford the high cost of housing in these areas is to move pretty far from work and they may spend 1.5 - 2 hrs commuting each way.

I have a piece of paper that says I have to work remotely to preserve my health

Some days I used to be in the car for 2-4hrs overall per day

That was for a 70 mile round trip

Would not have maintained it if it wasn’t for getting a lift most days as my mother and I worked for the same company
