Can schizophrenia go into remission?
I’ve heard it’s possible. I read a thing that said it’s even more common than previously thought according to new data. But I don’t know that I believe it based on my own experience. Maybe I’m just unlucky, though.
It’s possible. I read somewhere that about one third recover completely within ten years.
yes it is very possible, but it is better to listen to our pdocs and family if it really is the case or we lost insight.
I have sza/bipolar-type, and I would say I had a period of remission for about three years. I was off APs, just taking antidepressants and a mood stabilizer. That started in 2005, but in 2008 psychosis hit me very hard.
Yes it can. I am in remission. And for the last two years.
my therapist thought I was in remission. I haven’t got that from my pdoc yet though. im functioning much better, well enough that I think I can go back to work anyhow. there are some slight symptoms that i notice i still have. maybe those will go away also
I think such a thing does exist. I was on meds for three years straight then I told my psychiatrist I wanted to try life without medications. He was skeptical at first but eventually he tapered me off with Abilify. I lasted about 2 years without medications before having an episode. My point is that there may in fact be remission for some. I doubt he’ll give me a chance off meds any time soon again. Still I can only hope. Not that I’m anti meds, they help keep me stable. I just dream of a more normal life.
I was in remission between mid 1998 and 2006, no meds at all. Then all hell broke loose again…and here I am taking multiple meds and dealing with sza.
