Why were most of my delusions religious delusions?
They started when I was a kid and I got more of them as an adult. In my 20s I had multiple religious delusions.
I may still have some.
What causes this?

Ive always wondered at this.
For me personally, Im deeply religious in normal day to day life. When I become more unwell however; I start to detach from my faith and avoid going to Mass/Liturgy (or serving), I end up not praying the Hours at home, I wont talk about St Francis or study any of the scholastic elements, I wont run to help the poor .etc so its quite obvious when Im relapsing. Most others I know, when becoming unwell, become MORE religious haha

Religion is a big reason why I’m unwell.

I’m an atheist but had severe religious delusions when I was sick. I’m glad I was able to unplug from those.

In 2015 I was suicidally depressed and was going to off myself and I thought I would get answers when I was dead then come back to life. I won’t go into detail because I don’t want to get flagged but I’m glad I wasn’t able to off myself because that was a delusion and I didn’t realize it at the time.

I’m an atheist and I too had bizarre religious themed delusions when I was very very unwell.
I don’t understand it either.

We all are!
Its strange isn’t it… my faith safeguards me against suicide. Just goes to show, like all things, works for some, not for everyone. Got to be highly careful.

I think we’re all prone to supernatural beliefs and superstitions. Be it a particular religion, or astrology, numerology, demonism etc.
When for one reason or another our rational mind gets weaker, the void is filled up with supernatural thoughts that appeal more to emotion and imagination.

I think most people are because lots of people are religious.
Science and logic have only developed in the past few centuries, but mankind has worshipped various gods for many millennia prior.
I’m not saying science can or will eventually explain everything. But so far it has yielded promising results in: healthcare, technology etc.

If these delusions are classified as such, they must be causing you distress outside of a normal practising religious person

As science and technology developed, so did technological delusions
i kind of identify my illness as a battle between good versus bad and so you can imagine that it can present in a religious way when ill, it can be both good & bad.
