I just dropped mine off, they had a news story saying that it is cheaper to make new plastic items than reusing the plastic we spend our time cleaning and sorting just to end up in the dump anyway. Makes me mad, should be law they have to use recycled materials first
Yeah Ive been ranting to people irl that recycling is a waste. But people often reply “im still going to recycle”. I dont know how it all works tbh. But even if it costs more money, i think its good to reuse rather than just put it in a hole somewhere. But again, not educated on the topic. But i do recycle.
I used to recycle at my old address. There was a separate skip for recycling sacks, and the council gave some recycling sacks(although I had to buy more from the supermarket).
I recycle my cans. and glass. is a bit more inconvenient at my new location, as I have to take in my stuff to a recycling center a couple miles away. in my old city, the city would pick up your recyclables and even provided bins for it free of charge.
I do and I always rummage through the bins. I’ve found some really good stuff in there. Books mostly, brand new, that some editor pitches periodically.
they use too much oil to make new bottles, and no oil to use recycled bottles. it seems like the oil would cost more. recycling glass saves money on glass. plastic bags, reusuable ones saves trees for paper bags. but maybe the use less oil if we reuse them. as @GoldenRex said we recycle it is a lot of stuff. we rent our cans.
I recycle but my son worked at the recycling plant and said not even a 3rd of things sent in for recycling was actually recyclable. Even things that say on the item that it is recyclable some things are not recyclable at an ordinary plant. And specialty plants are few and far between.
Also if containers are not rinsed out they go in the trash.
I recycle. My dad is an avid aluminum can and glass bottle recycler. It has helped us get by in some tougher months. Sometimes 15 dollars of recycled plastic and aluminum goes a long way. He usually manages to get about 10 to 20 dollars a week from recyclables. He has a sort of bad habit of recovering bottles from the trash near our closest liquor store. People have seen him doing it and now offer him extra bottles. This little coffee/fruit smoothies etc. Shop constantly gives him free oatmeal and fruit stuffs. He’s become friends with the two workers there. An Afghani and a Mexican Americsn duo.
A lot of people in the apartment complex give him bags of recyclables now. My sister’s neighbors do to. It’s safe to say he has done his part to help the environment. I used to help him more often when we’d go to the recycling plant. Maybe I should go with him again. He tells me they mostly do everything for him now. Probably because he is elderly.
