The older I get the more concerned I am about trash ending up in a landfill. I’m not obsessive about it but I am concerned. Most things I throw away have to do with cooking (like canned green beans) and used drink containers like soda cans and water bottles. We don’t have a recycling plant in our town. Do y’all have ways to reduce waste?
I recycle but the city picks it up from my house every week so I’m lucky. Other than that, I’m not sure. I saw a tv documentary about this though a long time ago. Maybe check Netflix? I’m not sure where I saw it sorry. But it’s worth searching for documentaries about it
My country is way behind the times as regards garbage disposal and recycling. Just recently they’ve started collecting glass and plastic into separate containers, but yeah we have huge festering landfills and another issue here is illegal deforestation. Basically people steal lumber and sell it abroad, the mafia has even assaulted people who were trying to document these activities. It’s sad…
We have recycling for years where I live in the UK
Only stuff that can’t be recycled goes to landfill
The rest is supposedly reused for other things
Buy used, give what you have and you don’t need to a thrift store if it is still good, and don’t buy something it if you don’t need it. Avoid excess packaging with purchases whenever possible. Recycle what you can.
Hey @Loke, nice to see a post from you
I use a water filter and reusable water bottle. I also have a soda stream for making carbonated water.
My kid and husband get through a lot of packets of crisps and treat sized chocolate bars every week and it winds me up to see them stuffed in the bin. The crisp packets are stating they use less plastic than previously, but it’s still a waste in my eyes. I’d be interested in more tips to reduce waste.
Buy second hand from a thrift store.
That would be my tip.
Good for the environment and saves money.
