I don’t think so. There’s managing and living with the brain you’ve got and how it functions, but the sz brain will never function like a normal brain. That’s my impression.

My Dr always told me I may recover in 5 or 10 years. I think he was just trying to give me hope. But after going off meds 2 times and 2 visits to the ER He says I’m a lifer.

There are many opinions. I believe recovery is half possible, and anyway, there is people who live full lives and are high functioning despite severe sz, like Elyn Sanks for example. One way or the other, the brain is a powerful thing and the human being can find ways to make living enjoyable.

If by recovered you mean symptom free off medication-no, very unlikely.
If by recovered you mean is it possible to achieve stability and despite your symptoms get a steady job and family or what have you? Yes, for some people. Your chances are much higher if you adhere to medication and stay in therapy. There are a number of schizophrenics who now have stable lives, like elyn saks or even several people on here!
