“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Embarrassed, I’ve never actually read the book but hear that quote all over the place. It’s called the Litany against Fear, spoken by some sisterhood featured in the story. Even though I’ve never read the book, that quote often helped me through some trying episodes.
I’ve read it before but struggled with it, I found the author’s writing style difficult to understand. I don’t think I could have finished the book if I didn’t know the story already from watching the movie. Not a book I would go back to reread for sure, even though I like the story.
In high school I belonged to a science-fiction book club (and a few others). I bought a bunch of science fiction books including Dune. I’m sure you are aware that there is a Dune series. There’s three-four other Dune books after the first one. I liked the book, good science-fiction.
Only seen the movie and mini series like 10 times. Do know there is a series and played Dune computer games. Have also seen the children of dune mini-series to finish it all off. Don’t be shocked by the tone of my voice.

Dune the computer game was a great RTS title a ways ahead of it’s time. I think it was before the command and conquer games really took over the market. It was fun and building those sonic tanks was the business!
Dune the movie was rubbish. I love David Lynch but it really was a flaky movie. The sonic guns and weirding modules was total bogus and your right about it @GoldenRex! @Montezuma
I never knew they made a computer game out of Dune.
That’s pretty rad!
@rogueone The filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky was supposed to direct an adaptation of the book sometime in the 70’s. I think that’s what the article on Wikipedia said.
