Quitting your addictions

i have 3 addictions i want to quit.

I’ve quit 2 others for almost a year. and one i’ve cut back on extremely.

would anyone like to join me in a thread on just supporting each other with our addictions. I use them quite a bit as coping skills. but i need to quit.

Day 2 - 1st addiction
day 1 - 2nd addiction
day 1 - 3rd addiction. i struggle with all of them a lot. I’m going to join a support group for one of them. if anyone has suggestions on how they quit their addictions i’d love to hear them a lot!

I quit smoking about a year ago. I still crave cigarettes every now and then. Especially since I live with someone who smokes. I’ll be addicted for life, but it does get better. Just quit when you feel like it’s the right timing for you.

I was addicted to crack for four years. I got clean in AA, CA, and NA in 1990; haven’t touched drugs or alcohol since then. But addicts and alcoholics are prone to cross addictions and mine is caffeine.

That’s good you were able to quit even with a smoker in the house. That’s very good.

That is very good nick. Congrats on that.

one addiction i did do today already. But the other two i’m going good.

i want to have balance in my life as much as possible anyways with hallucinations.

Ive been using and or abusing otc drugs, 3 of them, and 2 prescribed meds in the last year. Ive quit most of them at this point. Technically i havent used any for about a week, just one pesky otc drug ive been struggling to quit.

I quit abusing one of the prescribed meds by getting it so i have to go to the pharmacy every day to pick it up. The others i quit because i felt if i continued using them they would screw up my brain and exacerbate my illness, so that was enough motivation for me at the time.

Hopefully ill keep this one week fully clean going. I hate the drug, its the worst.

if you want you can post in here just to get support in quitting if you feel it would help or if you ever need support to continue.

I appreciate that, i think that would be a helpful option. Its so easy with otc drugs to just go to walmart or shoppers at 2 am.

I am free from addictions, but in the past I struggled with alcohol, marijuana and pornography. Today I drink coffee, but at most a cup every other day. I still get cravings for marijuana, but I cannot go back to that. Contrary to popular brief, marijuana is psychologically addicting and potentially dangerous depending on the individual. Now I am focusing on developing a love for reading. If you want to kick an addiction I strongly recommend the meditation practice “silent prayer” by Jesse Lee Peterson.

I gave up weed when I went psychotic many moons ago. End of this year I’ll be 10 years without a cigarette. It doesn’t bother me anymore with others smoking. You do miss it but I never will go there again. I got off of them with champix. That really worked a treat for me.

I have given up ecstasy, LSD, Weed, Cocaine, crack, speed and magic mushrooms. By 18 years old I was burned out, and I had a years worth of drugs therapy ordered by the courts that sorted me out.

I was an addict from 11 years old, and it really messed with my life.

I would encourage anyone looking to give up to get the support to do so, and it’s achievable.

The only bad thing I do now is smoking, but given what I have quit, I let that slide.

Good that you quit!

I want to quit my internet addiction first. It is a way to numb/escape my feelings and procrastrinate when i need to do stuff i dont like. It is a little funny though to use an internet forum to quit my internet addiction.

I also want to quit sugar, perhaps coffee (not fully, just the addiction) and meds eventually.
