Am I the only one experiencing blurred vision on Abilify maintena 400mg, every 4 weeks.
I notice my eyesight getting blurred. But I seem to have good vision when its not blurred. Weird?
Not to mention I have a bad short term memory on it too.
Could I be hallucinating?
Been on for more than 4 years. Noticing different side effects as I tough it out.
Year 1 akinesia, puking, short term memory lost.
Year 2 weight gain, change in appetite
Year 3 blurred vision, Everything before, maintaining weight.
Year 4 Losing sleep, becoming manic at night, starting to get slow thoughts
These are the side effects I noticed and have spoke to my doc about. Told me its the seasons changing making me go a bit crazy.
Not buying it though.

As for your question, you are not the first to complain of blurred vision as a side effect. Please go to a doctor about it as soon as you can.

Here are some other results of people discussing blurred vision.
I’m not sure…I do have blurred vision and I need glasses now. Stress and allergies can cause that too though.
Yea. So many factors in life. I be thinking I rather not be on maintena. The doc insists that its working fine. Been doubting the docs persistence for the whole time I been on it.
The situation in the world atm is amping up my doubts. As I see no progress in life.
Did you require glasses before being put on abilify?
Yeah the pandemic is not good and all the stuff happening. That’s understandable that its stressing you out. One good thing is that Abilify really helped me manage stress when I was in moments like that. So you could consider it temporary relief, although it has been so effective it’s the only psyche med I would take. People have different chemistries, some people find meds like Geodon help them where-as it made my symptoms worse. I recently went off Aristada but it may have been working better than I realized. I just didn’t like being on an injection. The plus side of being on Aristada was that it kept me clean for 6 months, and when I took myself off it I relapsed/got sick again. Now I’m taking 10mgs of Abilify and its effective.
I think you risk the meds not working if you suddenly stop taking them, or mess with the doses, especially injections. I got really sick when I abruptly threw away my Aristada. I didn’t sleep for five days. I went to the ER twice and the second time they gave me Risperdal to help bring me down, and then I went back on the Abilify.
So if the vision blurriness gets worse there are always other medications, and you should probably reduce it with pills if you’re coming off the injection or maybe just stay on the Abilify and see if the side effects go away, could be allergies. Could be hormones, the weather. Aging. Stress.
My vision wasn’t instantly blurrier. I started taking this when I was 16 and I’m 32. I only needed glasses a few years ago and I still don’t wear them. Other medications also affected my vision though, stimulants like Vyvanse altered my vision. Anti-depressants and ephedrine altered my vision. I wonder what’s wrong with me, if its possibly reversible like dry-eyes or hormone or vitamin deficiency.
Just started taking something called “Eye vision Guard” which is Lutein Bilberry its a vitamin supplement for the eyes. I haven’t noticed anything yet but I hope I find something that could reverse the eye damage/sensitivity.
Yea. I have been thru quite a lot of medications. It’s nice that there is plenty of medications.
I was actually off all medications. For more than two years. I only started talking abilify to be a circuit breaker. As in I would not do much, be called unreasonable and moody. Motivation was little. Nothing around me attracted me.
So I was once again, showing very little affection to my family. I came out of the hospital extremely grateful to be out. Getting along with my mom. But two years later(not on meds). Was not the same amount of affection between us.
Seeing flaws in the ones around us. Not mentioning wanting more out of the relationships. Made me edgy. So that is why I started taking Abilify again.
You can say I never believed that being medicated was of necessity. I take it because the people around me see that I was not motivated. They did not see that I wanted more out of my relationships.
Although, I felt they thought I wanted too much of them.
I can say after been on abilify for four years. Much is the same between my relationship. I still feel its flawed, as its hard to communicate with someone that’s always playing on their phones. Pandemic has stop me from doing much. So no progression.
Just coming up to the ten year mark of being first hospitalized. So want some change/proof that I am still doing good.
Thanks for sharing some of your experiences.
