Question. Is CBD an antipsychotic in your opinion

Tried it. It worked to pull me out of severe delusions and terror. But I needed a lot. Too much to be affordable. I felt better than on an antipsychotic. Not so blunted, just a little dreamy. I used it instead of an antipsychotic, not together.

Thanks Marian.

I’m gonna stop using cbd oil which has thc , and use pure cbd when it’s cheaper.

CBD has some Antipsychotic properties.
Maybe useful as an add on to an AP.

@JeffTheDude read this.

do you smoke it? how much is it per joint? can you get ready made cbd type cigarettes or vape?

its for a friend who has tried normal cannabis but the thc may have made him anxious/panic/restless

You can buy pure CBD oil or vape cartridges,

I used both.

Also,

I don’t think the trace amount of THC found in cheaper CBD oils is going to make much of a difference…

idk if it a good idea though, how can i be sure that it was the thc causing his affects? i wish i knew for certain, does that vape oil cause any side effects? like panic/anxiety/hunger etc

The vape oil doesn’t seem to have any effect, really.

But it doesn’t have any THC, it that’s what you mean.

The trace amounts of THC are not going to have an effect like that,

Your probably nervous about the THC which makes your anxiety worse.

I gave my mother in law one of the CBD cartridges and she really likes it,

It helps her with back problems and some anxiety,

I’m sure it doesn’t have any THC.

would it just be like a relaxant then? bc thats what he needs i think (maybe) and is it addictive?

Neither THC or CBD are addictive,

But THC can cause anxiety,

CBD makes you sleepy, if anything.

If you order CBD its not going to have enough THC to make you nervous.

However, its not a real treatment,

You should still talk to your doctor about these symptoms.

i’m thinking about recommending it to a friend and it would help him chill and also get off the roll ups which is giving him a nasty cough x

nope… not in my book.

More like a mood-stabilizer or a pain-killer at best… beyond that on the more holistic and valid side of things… It’s a tactic for inducing relaxation.

I’ve actually been using various hemp-based CBD tinctures now for the past month and have found that it doesn’t really help with psychotic symptoms. I’ve been taking around 200mg/day and have remained on my anti-psychotics (Olanzapine at 5mg and Abilify at 2.5mg) while coming off of my anti-depressant (Prozac at 20mg). I decided to come off of my anti-depressant because I find while my schizophrenia-associated depression is severe, I’m still somewhat functional as compared to being fully psychotic when I’m off my APs. So while it hasn’t seemed to have helped with the psychotic symptoms, I can definitely say that it has helped maintain my mood and alleviate my depression. I’ve been off of Prozac for 3 weeks now and haven’t noticed a relapse in my depression. To be perfectly honest, I’ve actually noticed an improvement in my mood. Hope this post helps anyone inquiring about this topic. I will just say lastly though that YMMV. So exercise caution if you decide to go off of anti-depressants while trying CBD. I know this is a case of ā€œdo as I say and not as I do,ā€ but it may not work as an anti-depressant for everyone. Certainly has for me though.

I’m still not sure what effect cbd has on me because I take so many other things and I’m a bit emotionally numb, so all the times I tried cbd I have been unaware of the effects of cbd.

I’m glad you like it. I might buy some more next week to see how it feels because my emotions are coming back and I’d like to try cbd to test or rule it out.

CBD helps with anxiety and body aches. It doesn’t do anything for psychosis.

I’m using topical rub of 20 mg CBD. It works like icy hot, but like 3 times better and gentler. I have not used it as an anti-psychotic, but now I’m wondering what that dosage would be and I’m wondering if a topical rub might be too small of a dose to try it for psychosis, or I’d have to ingest it or smoke it instead?

I also smoke jack herer (high thc) though, so that will def affect the antipsychotic effect, if there is any. I guess in order to test this, I’d have to get off the thc, but it’s good for my anxiety, depression, and mood, so I won’t be doing that.

curious if a muscle rub CBD works on more than muscles?

I still stand by my personal experience of not really noticing any anti-psychotic effect of CBD, but since this thread has been posted, another exploratory and early stage clinical trial regarding CBD as an anti-psychotic has been published in the American Journal of Psychiatry.

In this study, it was used as adjunct therapy as opposed to being used individually. The patients appear to have responded positively to the therapy. In addition, the group receiving CBD therapy ingested 1000mg on a daily basis. So yeah… At the current price of hemp tinctures, even if CBD is a legitimate option for the treatment of schizophrenia, it doesn’t seem financially feasible. I’m not allowed to post the link, but if you just Google ā€œcannabidiol adjunct therapy schizophrenia,ā€ it should be the first search result on the page. Suffice it to say that more research is needed.

I bought CBD E liquid from a local headshop. It was $40 CAD and it’s only 100mg. I’ve been vaping it consistently for the past week and noticed that I’m in a better mood. It doesn’t get rid of the psychosis, but it’s only a small amount. I ordered a 300mg bottle from buycbdcanada and I plan on trying it out and see how it goes. I’m still looking for a good place to buy CBD.

Cbd for schizophrenia is puzzling. I’m not sure about weather it works or not.

Honestly… I would not ask here lol. Try a different forum that knows more about the medical properties of CBD for illnesses.

I don’t even bother talking about my opinion of marijuana here, because someone would be a pissbaby and throw a tantrum because ā€˜no no you can’t have that if you’re psychotic!!!’

The discourse is hardly ever even educated or facts based about this issue. Just all gross emotions, fear and hysteria.

Honestly y’all remind me of a bunch of scared parents from a hundred years ago talking about 'reefer madness’

I completely understand that a lot of people with our type of issues cannot take marijuana though. I respect that. Just how I’d like to be respected for having my own opinion.

Unfortunately, if you even state that you have a positive experience with marijuana on this forum, people think that you’re trying to lure them into taking drugs and sell their soul to satan or whatever other dumb BS.

I’ve come to the realization that if you are psychotic you should never tell people about weed use, if they’re also psychotic or not.

They will completely disregard your symptoms and diagnoses and treat you like a lazy paranoid stoner. You will not be taken seriously by your peers or (most) doctors.

So, if I were you I would just go somewhere else on this vast, giant internet and explore information you probably aren’t likely to find on here.

Just my opinion.
