I think “Autism Spectrum Disorder” should be renamed to Autism Severity Disorder, because some uneducated people hear the word “Spectrum” and think that everyone is on the Autism Spectrum, and that is not true. Although, more people happened to be diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder than a few decades ago, neurologically
developed people hold the majority.
No. I don’t need any more stigma to deal with, especially professionally.
Saying it as a severity is much better than “Spectrum” though.
And how do you think the word severity sounds to HR professionals?
The therapy and social skill training is going to be the same in severity.
Depends on level of function. That’s why it’s a spectrum.
Maybe before messing with naming conventions they should perhaps work on supports
There are supports?
News to me.

I have mixed feelings when it comes to ‘functioning’, and the tendency for autistic people to be defined as purely high or low functioning.
Anytime you add the word severe to anything it causes alarm bells to ring off. When we hear the word severe, even used in lieu of the term spectrum, we automatically think worst case scenario. Im not sure what changing it to include the term severity would do other than increase stigma. I don’t have ASD, but I could imagine it would probably be easier to explain what spectrum means to the uneducated over explaining that the term severity doesn’t mean bad.
Also known as Human Resources.
I’m angling for the next raise/promotion so I’m looking for any edge I can.
I think they should call it a condition not a disorder. I hate that word lol
@anon82948922 what’s your key to being so funny? ![]()
I modified my personal massager so that the batteries are connected in series instead of parallel now.

They’re pretty non-existent here
If I had to describe the children’s hospital closest to me I would use one word: Bling. It is fully decked out and no expense was spared. Everyone feels for sick kids. When it comes to investing in mental health… The psych wards and clinics all look like Soviet era construction. Ill-maintained with 40 year old furniture and paint peeling everywhere.
Everything health-care wise is poorly staffed here right now. COVID crashed the health system and it hasn’t recovered.
I saw an article today that was saying people are taking loans out for private surgery to avoid the waiting lists on public health
Ongoing support from mental health is get what you’re given, as there is no alternative out there that’s in anyway affordable for regular people
