Question for people who have had problems with opioids

I’m having a really tough time getting off kratom. It’s not a particularly powerful opioid but at this point I’m taking too much of it. I’d really like to only hear from people who have gotten off opioids specifically because they provide a very particular kind of relief. I wanna make it clear that for me and probably the majority of addicts, we’re not animals chasing a high. We’re people who are in a lot of pain. For me I have a terrible comorbid anxiety disorder that seems more or less treatment resistant. This makes it incredibly difficult to attend meetings. If almost resigned to just giving up on sobriety and just trying to not let the addiction get too out of hand while I wait for better meds but I’m very aware that this is very much putting all my eggs in one basket. I just don’t know what to do about the anxiety. I know I’m not the only person on this site who is in a pretty torturous situation, it does however blow my mind that I’m probably one of only a few who have given into the relief that substances provide. You are all profoundly strong people.

I used to have poppy seed tea every now and then , but it caused so much depression the following 2 days after, I had to stop.

The opium in poppies relaxed me for 16 hours, but the depression that followed wasn’t worth it.

I tried kratom before I got schizophrenia and I liked it, but for some reason I forgot about it.

I avoid opium type plants now. Too depressing for me

Hey, just think of the type of people who go to Narcotics Anonymous. I’m not putting anyone down but a lot of addicts aren’t socially adept. They go from shooting heroin or smoking meth in places like seedy motels or abandoned houses or in houses with other addicts to sitting in a meeting and having to get along with a roomful of strangers. It isn’t easy for anyone. They understand if someone else is nervous or anxious or has problems socializing.

There’s people from all backgrounds in NA but you can bet that they ran with some people who weren’t exactly saints. Meetings are informal and you don’t have to talk if you don’t want to, you can just sit there sipping on coffee. People in meetings are friendly and will welcome you, you wouldn’t be the only nervous or anxious person in the room, you’re all kind of in the same boat.

I was on OxyContin for two years due to chronic pancreatitis. I eventually had two surgeries to fix it. I also had several pain block procedures. Getting off the oxy after my last surgery was a ■■■■■. But I was able to do it. Chronic pain is the worst and I feel for you.

I used Kratom daily for 2 years. I even up having a seizure once and then later ended up in resus for nearly having cardiac arrest. This was a wake up call and ended up quitting cold turkey.

Withdrawals were horrible. What kind of withdrawals are you having? Is it activating one (anxiety, insomnia, restlessness)? Or sedating ones (Extreme tiredness)? For the activating one’s psychiatrist can prescribe quetiapine which is used for withdrawal of opioids.

If the withdrawals are extreme and Kratom is dangerous for you, ask them to refer you to an addiction team. They can prescribe suboxone for the withdrawals under a doctors supervision.

How much kratom we’re you using if you don’t mind me asking?

I was not strong but strongly supported to cold turkey alcohol and THC(Marijuana) by a therapist who is an recoverd alcoholic.
