Question about a med my family doctor prescribed

As you may know I was prescribed first gabapentin then pregabalin for anxiety by my family doctor. I am on 200mg of pregabalin (as well as my main meds Prozac and seroquel via my pdoc).

I am not sure if I need the pregabalin anymore. It causes me weight gain and a very dry mouth and would be keen to come off it responsibly. I am committed to the seroquel and Prozac though.

My question is since the pregabalin is prescribed solely by my family doctor do I approach him or my pdoc to discuss attempting to come off it responsibly? I don’t want to offend either doctor by not going through the proper channels.

does you pdoc know you take pregabalin? When do you see each doc next? Who is it easier to get in to see?

I have told my pdoc before. Won’t be seeing my pdoc for 6 months. It is much easier to see my family doctor.

Thing is I have only just come off depixol so will leave it a couple of months before doing anything with the pregabalin anyway so there is no rush.

My nurse has a weekly meeting with my pdoc though. In 8 weeks time I could mention it to her and she could run it by my pdoc?

what does your gut say?

My gut says wait 6 months to my next pdoc appointment and discuss it with him. Like I say coming off depixol is a big deal anyway and I don’t won’t to complicate that process by changing the pregabalin.

that sounds good then. Does that med help at all?

Because I am on 3 meds am not sure which med is doing what (if that makes sense)

That totally makes sense, my meds are like a house of cards. Take one out and the whole thing crumbles.

That’s it decided! Will leave everything until I next see my pdoc. Just keep on my diet in the meantime.

If the medicines you are using (Gabapentin and Pregablin) are psychiatric medicines, it is better you consult your Psychiatrist , even though they are prescribed by your family doctor. The Psychiatrist knows more about these medicines than family doctor and also their interactions with other medicines etc. You need not tell this to your family doctor if you are feeling sensitive.

It would be best to see the doctor that prescribed it for you. And that would be your family doctor.
