Is that even possible… because I keep thinking the worst to happen my psychiatrist felt I might have an element of ptsd following psychosis
It is possible. Psychosis is very traumatic.
I also sometimes believe the worse. Ptsd is different from SZ, in ptsd you rexperience traumatic events with flashbacks like emotionally, visually and auditively.
I learned this in my psychology university courses. I had a course named Pathopsychology, we learned about all mental illnesses including SZ. I was scared in class that my classmates find that I am schizophrenic.
I think all long term Psychosis would trigger PTSD,
I’ve learnt that Psychology and Psychiatry are not the same subject!
Psychiatrists are qualified to treat mental illness, psychologists are not! I believe and trust more in psychiatrists than psychologists.
Your doing well in your field I can see that, you’l make more money prescribing Paxil.
Meds are stronger than psychotherapy, its a scientific fact.

Yeap you’ll be good at marketing as well!
I am uncertain but my theory is the meds help, the rest of the work you have to do on your own through psychological therapy. Meds just take the edge off, not always completely but can help.
Yes…“real” life events can be traumatic, but psychosis too. I find it really scary to think back to psychosis, and experience flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety about it. I want a psychologist to treat that and think it is a big shame this isnt getting more attention as a standard.
Yeah I was surprised my pdoc even mentioned it. I only saw him once but he is already leaving the place. Psychosis can be traumatic in itself and people just don’t recognise its part of the parcel of having any illness mental or psychical sometimes.
I think so. When my mum got cancer she got the best of care and immediately was offered help by a psychologist. I begged for psychological care for years and didnt get it. I think psychiatry is far behind real medicine in such things and should immediately involve psychological care if wanted by the patiënt.
In the UK it doesn’t even have enough funding. I mean if I saw a doctor more often than once every 1.5 years then maybe I could have reached my diagnosis sooner and got help.
Same here. Facilities are often dirty, crowded and old. With a total lack of care. I was so happy mum got superb care when she got physically ill, but i also cried for all the people in psychiatry not getting it.
Im now in a better ward, probably by private donations, but that still lacks funding. We have good food and clean places, but no treatment.
There was a protest here by a lady who did a sitting protest. She sat down where all the ministers come with a board saying she waited for 8 or 10 or so years for treatment and she would now wait there.
I am sorry about your mother. But I am glad she got the care she needed.
The thing here is, when my dad got cancer he was taken to the local hospital but when we requested it, he was immediately taken to another hospital that we found was more specialised in treating end of life/palliative care. They tried very hard to make him comfortable. I am so glad we got him out of the first hospital, it was horrible.
With mental health though, you can’t choose your psychiatrist or where you want to go. You don’t have those rights. You are stuck with who you got.
True. I hope you get good diagnosis and care for ptsd though. Good luck. It is good they recognized it!
Sorry for your dad too.
