Psychotic episode?

If I had various delusions for nine years continuously, does that mean my psychotic episode lasted nine years and counting? What qualifies as a “psychotic episode”?

I would say yes to your question. I would say if you had delusions continuously for nine years that means that psychotic episode lasted nine years.

Interesting topic. I had three long running delusions over the space of four years. I was off my meds most of this time. I’d consider it one episode.

9 years is quite a stretch. We’re you hospitalised/treated during any of it?

Yes I was in hospital seven times over those years. Saw numerous pdocs and was on several meds. Most of my hospital stays were due to suicidal depression or self harm and also voices telling me to kill my husband

It’s not the first psychosis though. I first got psychosis when I was 15 in 1999 and only got better when I was 22. Then 2007-2012 I was doing well

Hope things are better for you now. Do you feel you’re stable and on the right meds now?

Thanks. Yes I found right combo (amisulpride, lamotrigine and citalopram) but my previous pdoc has tried to take me off amisulpride due to prolactin levels high, so I’m on low dose and tried quetiapine and haloperidol. The quetiapine had severe side effects so I asked to stop it and now on haloperidol along with other meds. But I don’t feel stable now. It’s on and off since about April. I was in hospital in January and the next three months did well and not much psychosis but then it returned more

That sounds like a rollercoaster. I hope that they can get this right for you. Are you due a med review soon?

Yes I see my pdoc every two weeks, I see her again next week Tuesday.

@Hadeda if you were changing meds constantly there would be side effects in your brain i would imagine it’s possible it could be from that. (Don’t quote me on that I’m not a doctor, just went thru the same thing)

Psychotic episodes are any time you are experiencing something that doesn’t feel like objective reality. Sometimes it’s just your persistent state of being. Doesn’t mean it’s normal.

I had delusions last at least 10 years.
I wasn’t on an AP at the time.

For my self I kinda consider an episode when it’s persistent and disrupts my daily life. When I have a few symptoms I just call it a glitch

While on APs, and off APs, I have been told my experiences and beliefs are psychotic and delusional since 2008. Nothing has made it go away

@LilyoftheValley that is why I don’t tell my doc everything. They can make anything diluted
