Psychosis state

Hello,

Last year I posted a query regarding my nephew’s Schizophrenia. The boy (now aged 21) is still suffering from it – he’s taking a lot of meds. His main problem seems to be ‘Psychosis’ – this last from 1/2 hr to 4 hrs and he gets this state every once in 2 - 3 days. Other times he seems to be ok. His doctor has been telling my sister (the boy’s mom) that it is nothing to worry about, that many people with Schizophrenia have come out of it completely over the course of several years. In that perspective, I am inclined to ask whether any of you have experienced ‘Psychosis’ – it can be described as a state wherein the boy says everyone on the whole world is against him and plotting bad things to defame him, etc – all mentally imagined. Please let me know.

Thanks,

JRAVI

I have been psychotic for as long as 72 hours until meds have kicked in. Usually when psychosis starts happening my pdoc adjusts or changes my medication. I am not sure if this helps @jravi.

When I get psychotic I feel chased. Also my voices become evil and threatening. My pdoc adjust my meds and I will be ok in 2-3 weeks depending on if she upped my meds or changed them.

How is his sleep? My episodes of psychosis always starts with insomnia.

Some people do better than other with the duration or absence of psychosis. Some people go in recovery for months or years but mostly with the help of medicine. The medicine used for sz is called anti-psychotics so hopefully your nephew is on AP meds that will help him with the psychosis. AP meds are very good to help with the positive symptoms of sz but sometimes we still relapse even though we are on meds and then we seek help from a psychiatrist. Paranoia in that you think that people are plotting against you is one of the positive symptoms and is normally well treatable wit AP meds. Your nephew should explain his situation to his psychiatrist as it can sometimes be a tricky situation to get the right meds combination. Sometimes you get treatment resistant sz which is difficult to treat.

Been living there for 2 years. I know it’s safe though. I didn’t at first but now I do. That is the key.
