Professor put down schizophrenics in front of class today

Even so called smart people stigmatize against schizophrenics.
I was treated like a piece of garbage by medical staff including doctors in the Emergency Room in two different Hospitals.

Really very shocking.

I’ve only been hospitalized once but I had no diagnosis…I was on 1to 1 for first 3 days…they had to watch me sleep…they all treated me well because I picked on them and cheered up all the depressed Normie’s that I was stuck with…no one said anything out of the way or mean to me even after they picked sz for me…

People want to sound smart when they insult us, so they misuse a, ā€œcomplexā€ word. I’d ask those Mofos to spell it before they can use it.

It’s basically racism because we all have a certain type of genetic mutation which we can pass on to our children. I feel like I’ve been offended on that level.

what a silly stupid person, obviously uneducated about our illness.

having said that, i watched a program earlier , and they had this guy playing a daft part in the play (it was a sitcom but he had to do a different character in a play) anyway, hes supposed to be sz, but he was like talking in one voice and then talking in another and they were all thinking it was funny. i just turned the telly over to anohter program, uuur it totally frustrates me, xxx

I’ve heard of people miss using the word ā€œschizophrenicā€ or ā€œschizoā€. I am stigmatized by my own in laws. their belief is its all about mind set and that I just need to change mine. but then again they call me looney toons, and crazy,

Dammit I was thinking about this while I worked…if we are 1%of the 1% are the other 99% of sz suffers bat ā– ā– ā– ā–  skitzo?..and us .01% of the total population mostly keep to ourselves…the world has no idea about our tiny % or how hurtful their words are…can we blame them for being ignorant of us…?

Statistically, we are the 66% of the 1%. So, it’s not quite that bleak.

I have had the same experience. Once I was in the ER for having Clorox in my eye. Made the mistake of telling them I was sz, because they asked. One of the nurses was like " omg not another one of them" very snotty like. Dr apologized for her but I was pretty disappointed.

Oh good I felt so bad for that stat…

I like how they because it means split mind in Greek confuse it with split personality disorder.
Anyway I listen to lots of Christian apologists. As Godly of people as they could possibly be. I occasionally hear them use sz in a way that offends me. I really think people are ignorant and don’t realize they are putting us down. When people used to use the word crazy that bothered me . I’m way over that now, knowing most of the time there talking rightly about Normie’s.

My bio teacher last year called aphipathic molecules the schizophrenic molecules.

I was a ā€˜normie’ for 46 years and I was ignorant. I didn’t know how large the scope of schizophrenia was/is. I knew it wasn’t DID which many still get those 2 confused but I thought all people with schizophrenia were severely ill all the time. I know that is true for some schizophrenics but it isn’t for all. I never made fun of the mentally ill but I still lacked the compassion I could have had. The world needs to be educated more on mental illness and encouraged to have demonstrated compassion. Obviously being on this side of the fence has significantly enhanced my empathy. I agree that talking directly to the teacher, telling him your position on it and giving him the benefit of the doubt and the chance to apologize is the best way to go. Good luck with all that

This happened a few times in my school but they don’t know. My friend who knows keeps looking over every time it happens. So I understand how uncomfortable it is. I’m sure your professor didn’t mean to be offensive

My Psych professor has been telling a story and said things like ā€œYou’d have to be psychotic to blah blah blahā€¦ā€ but I know he is just talking. If I wasn’t MI, I might use language like that too. I try not to take it personally but if it gets to be offensive, I will say something to him.

On a site note; I always worry about doing something ā€˜crazy’ at school. I am hopeful that I will stay in remission.

my sister in law was talking about all the mass shootings and bombings and just all violence going around the world today. she said they were" psychotic or schizo" really ticked me off.

I would let it slide and just forget about it. He didn’t do it maliciously and chances are that he will never do it again. If you complain it might cause more trouble than it’s worth. Pick your battles, this one does not seem worth fighting for. Sometimes you just have to ignore stuff.

I never get offended by this kind of thing. I said in a post a while back that I don’t believe in being offended by anything because it just gives undeserved power to something that can’t actually hurt me. Now if someone personally takes a stab at you, knowing what they’re saying, that’s different. Then you have the right to defend yourself. But there’s no reason to be offended when someone doesn’t even know what they’re saying. Rather than getting upset, use it as an opportunity to educate people about the facts on mental illness.
