…knowing full well that I have a related disorder and that I was in the class.
He said while telling a personal story, and I can’t remember the exact words, that he had been “an idiot” or “pathetic”, or some insulting word, then he said "it was like I was a schizophrenic, for thinking that I would find something (an artifact) that day "
I am meeting with the Access office today anyways, and plan on telling them about this.
I felt very paranoid and ashamed for the rest of the class period.
I’m sorry. Most of these jokes come from a lack of understanding what the disease really is, and what it’s like to have it. Go educate him on how wrong he was! Social justice power!
Perhaps a wiser move might be to discuss this matter with him one-on-one before going over his head. To give him the opportunity to clarify himself and perhaps apologize to you.
You are right, i have just talked to a friend about this problem, and he said i should either wait til the semester is over and write him a note, or talk to him in person.
I thought higher education facilities were all PC and ■■■■…do we not fall under the unacceptable to talk ■■■■ about in such a ignorant manner…category…
Tbh I kinda feel like he knows not what he speaks…but…were just 1% of 1% I feel like we should stick up for the other .99% of sz because they lack the ability for the most part…
His comment was probably based on old research that claimed to have isolated a specific scent emitted by people with schizophrenia.
I don’t know where this research ended up going, but apparently it was a real thing for a while.
@Nomad, my immigration class has us reading a book about the US/Mexico border. It’s a great book (in all other ways) and probably the only one to tackle the issues we’re studying thoroughly, but it keeps referring to the US’s “schizophrenic” border policies.
My teacher hasn’t used that descriptor (he favors “totally f**ked up”) and I haven’t said anything about it, but it irks me every time that phrase comes up.
I got a lil asain in me leaves me odorless am I the acception to the smell law?..also makes it hard to remember showering though…luckily I got someone to say its been 3 days take a ■■■■■■■ shower…lol
Lol you made me sniff my own armpit after I read your post…its odorless…despite me swapping mattress, box spring and frames of the bed down stairs with ours upstairs earlier…
my teacher told the class once that a schizophrenic was running around naked, it was one of her stories that was to emphasise how crazy someoe with that diagnosis can be when in full psychosis, i just brushed it off bc i know how crazy people can get when they are not in their right mind.
