I seem to think it is bottled up frustration and from unresolved fears that can surface - all in all, not about the moment but in general an emotional expression BUT 2 docs I talked with said it could be a sign of tardive dyskinesia from the stelazine I’ve taken so many many years.
anyone else have grinding teeth come on and annoy them?
I had Tardive Dyskinesia appear while on Stelazine. I wasn’t grinding my teeth, but I did have other unusual mouth movements. My pdoc has said I have 2 options for antipsychotics - Seroquel and Clozaril. I opted for Seroquel to avoid the blood tests if I can.
I am taking risperdone that causes me to clench my jaw so much of the day that I have actually damaged the workings of it on one side. I told the doctor and he prescribed artane to help relieve the muscle cramping there in my jaw.

I am sorry to hear about other’s teeth grinding and tooth loss. I hate it too. My physical therapist (for my knee) told me - put your tongue up against the roof of your mouth and you can’t grind. that works too but seems difficult to remember and keep one’s tongue up there.
Sometimes, Im thinkin because, not sleeping well or jaw tension. I try to sleep on my back and exercise my jaw. There are retainers to sleep with so as not to grind teeth at night time. My son and I had it. I think diet issues and nightmares too.
I clanch my jaws and grind my teeth. Have done it all my life. I use a mouth guard at night. I have loud noices coming from my jaw while chewing. I once bit my dentist in his finger. I believe my clenching is a tic. I have tourette’s syndrome.
That’s good. did your dentist have it made? The ones you by at the drugstore arent made to fit your teeth. They have foam - or did when I used them - leaving places that are left where bacteria can grow. .
Hi, my dentist made mine, he took a mould of my teeth/mouth so it was a perfect fit, it’s made from silicone which is very hygienic as bacteria don’t grow on it. I don’t know how much it would cost if you have to pay for it as I got mine free through the NHS, but it’s been a huge help, my teeth and jaws used to ache all day from grinding and I was damaging the surfaces of my teeth, but with the mouth guard that’s no longer a problem. It did cause me to drool a bit when I first started using it but that’s not really an issue now either, so I’m really glad I persevered with it. Best wishes
