Probably won't get the dishwasher job...scared

I could see being nervous about the prospect of going to a job when you haven’t worked for 25 years, but I’m not understanding why you don’t think you can do a dishwasher job.

You are always saying how you can play guitar, make floor plans for a house, play other instruments, write a book, etc etc, but you aren’t capable of washing dishes? I don’t understand.

I could see if you have issues like I do where I can’t control when I sleep or something that makes keeping a schedule nearly impossible, but doing the job itself doesnt seem that complicated compared to the other things you do.

It doesnt seem to make sense.

it’s the standing up for a long time…I have a bad back…hurts when I stand a long time…that’s the main reason…not just fear.

I worked at a holiday home. Where it took 3 dishwashers. They had all the banquet rooms they had. All I can say is it was hard work. And fun at the same time. I’ve only had 3 dishwashing jobs in my life. One was in Alaska. Where? I made $11 an hour. Compared to the one I had in Kansas. At 275 an hour. Both in the same year. Although it kind of runs. Your ability to have. Play your guitar. As your fingers become too soft. And I no longer dishwashed because of that reason. For a living.

I worked in the restaurant business for a number of years as a waiter but I also worked in the kitchen and washed dishes for a while.

Being a dishwasher was very hard work, it’s not as easy as many might think.

It’s a dirty job but an honest one.

No one said it wasn’t hard work , stressful or honest work. Just that it’s no more complex than other things he does. He seemed to be saying that he was not capable of doing it.

His physical issues were not mentioned in the OP.

If your physical problems are that severe, maybe you should not be applying for manual labor jobs.

One of the Greek philosophers was a dishwasher.

I think it was Aristotles. No wait, it was Platon

Maybe find a job where you can sit down like working at a bookstore or something

I think the issue is most people can wash dishes. But sustaining it for a 4 or 8 hour shift a lot of people struggle with that.

So the issue is sustained effort

Well, that and physical fitness until you toughen up. A stack of plates isn’t light.

Yeah absolutely. I know when i used to do property maintenance, my old boss would not hire previous office workers because the physical effort is so high that most wouldnt make it through the first week.
You basically need atleast 1 to 3 conditioning to work in awful weather doing hard labor for 8-10 hrs

I had to quit the only dishwashing job I had after 2 weeks – it was so stressful. The people working in the kitchen were nice and fun, but I just couldn’t keep up with the work. That, and they had me working nights which I just cannot do. I also struggled with the upbeat, social aspect of the job.

Being a dishwasher sucks i did it alot one of my most horrible jobs.

I use to be a dishwasher and fry cook before sz I lost two cooking jobs from being hospitalized three total

It’s like a gym workout to me. You just go through the physical motions without having to think hard about anything. I didn’t mind it. I would occasionally work in the pit as a sous chef to make the point to the other cooks that it is not beneath anyone to help out in any part of the kitchen.

I got a job washing dishes about 25 years ago. I couldn’t keep up. I am not good at fast food jobs. I could haul hay in high school, but since they switched to these great big bales that is no longer possible. Hauling hay was a hot and dirty job, but I loved it.
