When the bosses are my age. Usually people the same age as me are pretty cool with me.
When I go to an interview with 35 year olds interviewing me (10 years older than me) they look down on me “I see you have no retail experience blah blah blah” always nitpicking. But when the bosses start being my age, I figure they’ll all be like “Hey you’re 28! No way! Me too! You’re hired! Us 28 year olds gotta stick together! A raise? No problem!”
My boss is the same age as me. But she didn’t no till recently. I never reveal my age on my resume. I never reveal what year I finished school or uni that’s a big giveaway. They really don’t need to know
At my first job as a dishwasher my boss was a cute 19 year old. She used to put her hand on your arm when she talked to you. All of us dishwashers loved it.
I finally got an interview. It is a super glamorous job unloading things off the back of a truck. But it’s better than nothing. I hope they don’t ask me about my experience. I’m just in it for the employee discount at the store.
Good luck! It’s a step in the right direction at least! I’ve had similar jobs. They’re not exactly pleasant but will make it easier for you to get another job in the future if you can hold for a while and demonstrate you’re employable!
I also have a meeting scheduled with Acces VR (they provide training and job placement to people with disabilities that have interfered with their ability to stay employed) and both my social workers submitted paperwork to them recommending me for bakery work.
Inventory management is important. So is being able to keep customers happy. You don’t keep customers happy and the business is soon out of business. Yes, retail experience is important. Experience is important, period. If you don’t have experience and need it, volunteer at places where you can get it (e.g. hospital gift shops).
