Preppers, survivalists

I don’t know if it is wishful thinking for the death of crapitalism or the feelings that zombie flicks create when secretly one yearns for the end of civilisation, but how do you feel about the people preparing for it?

What with climate change and the inevitable influx of climate refugees that will happen that will have huge economic consequences, don’t you think it is necessary to prepare in some way for it?

I mean what is the harm of having a back up plan after all?

Would you qualify this as unusual belief and the ruminations of a conspiracy theorist?

I always say ‘if the apocalypse is there, I’ll just die’.

Death is nothing to fear. I was just fine for billions of years before ‘I’ existed.

You should always have enough food and water and fuel stashed to get through an interruption in services or through some sort of economic setback. I do in terms of food and water.

It can become an unusual belief easily if it crosses certain thresholds like you are the omega man, it foretold in reve…aling writings, the end is brought by aliens who want to live on earth after wiping out humans etc. Preparing for disasters is not in itself unusual

No. The world is a bunch of conflicts of interest. What happens now in Ukraine is just up to date proof of it. They already threatened nukes. Sometimes it feels like the world is a powder keg that’s just waiting to blow with all the tension out there.

I think preparing for disruptions is clever as long as it dosesen’t get manic and you build a bunker 20 feet underground.

I love the idea of stocking food. Prepping I guess… I wanna buy like 10 giant bags of rice just incase things hit rock bottom in the world.

Around a year ago I stumbled on a couple of slavic immigrants who make survival videos from the USA. From what I understood they actually train themselves to survive and wander the land, while sharing know-how via the Web. They teach how to make soap, how to bake bread, in camp conditions, etc.

I thought to myself. They live in a peaceful country with a strong military, they should stuff themselves with burgers and fried potatoes, yet they run around the forest and eat undercooked dough. It just doesn’t make sense to me. Is this fear? Is this just done for YouTube money?

In short I mock lone survivalists who worry about apocalypse. I learn to cook simply and forage because I knew for a fact for many years now that hunger comes to my country. I have an actual tangible reason to learn specific skills.
