Power outage

There is a terrible storm here, and we have been without power for ten hours. It is freezing and the house is starting to lose heat. We have the furnace plugged into the generator, but the heating zone switches are electric, so they won’t turn on and feed the heat to the rest of the house. Grrrr.

Does anyone know how to manually override heating zones?

Any idea when the storm is expected to blow over?

Google the manufacturer ? Is there a name on the controls ?

Weather report says around 5 AM. I assume they won’t send anyone out to do things before hen. It would be dangerous to have someone on a cherry picker with 30-50 mph winds.

The cart return blew right over!

man…11 hours would ruin your food in your refrigerator !! we had an outage for about 8 hours last week…I empathize…sorry about that.

Luckily, the fridge is plugged into the generator.

All I can think of is trying to open them with a screw driver or something and then wedging something inside to keep it open.

Do you have air ducts?

There’s only one cart. Did the rest blow away?:shopping_cart: :scream:

No, hot water heat. I think I’ll just have to wait until morning. We have a fireplace for emergencies.

Hahaha possibly?

Yeah I have the same in my apartment.

If I would have known earlier I could have asked the maintenance guys here but they have all gone for the day.

As far as opening. I know yours are electric. But mine have a lever on them that controls the valve. IF your’s are in anyway similar to mine, you can check for those anywhere on the radiator and pull it open.

There are no levers or valves. Just wires. And I don’t want to tinker around and break it because we just had the whole furnace redone.

They would be pretty obvious. There would be something hiding it if it were there. Mine has a panel on the end that opens up for the lever to be pulled. If you can’t find it right away it’s probably not there and not worth being frozen for.

Just keep warm. Grab some blankets. Have some hot chocolate and watch some of this

You have the supplies on hand to make a couple of these?

They’re great emergency heat sources.

Probably shouldn’t use a coffee can however as some of them are made from paper. Or at least check before you do. At long as it’s metal and lays on something that won’t get burned it’s good.

Heat outage. My furnace is a water and air heater combo. The water heater part is working, But the air heater section is not. So I’ve got power, but I don’t have air heat.

Power is still out. The fireplace is keeping the house around 57 F (13C), which is cold but livable. I miss hot food.

But you are able to use the internet. That’s all that really matters.
