Poor conversational skills!

Well I don’t know how to keep the conversational ball rolling.

Most of time its “Hey, How are you ?”. “I’m fine, thanks”. And thats the end of the conversation.

I don’t know what to say. Anybody suffering from this ?

How do I get the right conversational skills ? Any advice/thoughts ?

Maybe it’s alogia. I haven’t anything to talk about.

Well I think I can improve myself if I get the social skills.

I have noticed I become very happy and talkative after taking my evening paroxetine dose. I become so happy, that i start to event jokes. Morning paroxetine is small, so I dont become that happy in morning but surely the evening dose is high and i become very happy and talkative in evening.

But still I don’t have normal social skills. I think with meds and building social/conversational skills we can improve ourselfs.

practice can help

just ask a lot of questions to get it started, but also try to keep it 50/50 in general

I have it, It’s called lack of speech which is a negative symptom. Only practice can help it

I have this problem too. Its a negative, yeap  … I think John_Raven is right, try practicing it. I regret I lost so much time in isolation. I went to a state, where I am on the edge of suffocating when I need to talk, yeah…

I have it too. Coffee helps me, but it also can bring on positive symptoms.

I’m struggling with this, too. I feel like this illness has destroyed my social skills. The worst part IMO. I do practice by talking with my parents, but they know me well so it’s easy.

Talk about simple matters like the weather or the super bowl. I often get foot in mouth syndrome when I think too much. Practice helps. Reading magazines help for topic choosing.

I struggle with this as well, but I will say I have been getting a lot better with practice. It’s like I had to relearn how to have a conversation.

Start with the weather. It’s easier to talk about.
