Psychosis NOS but it’s been going on for years and I have negative symptoms as well as psychotic ones so that may change

Unspecified schizophrenia spectrum disorder - though I don’t know how meaningful my diagnosis is considering that my psychiatrist let me choose which psychotic disorder I wanted to be diagnosed with! He doesn’t believe strongly in labels, and I’m pretty sure I could have been diagnosed schizotypal, schizophrenic, or schizoaffective - plus I didn’t believe I had a psychotic disorder at all, so letting me choose which one to have was kind of a compromise

I can start to see all these diagnoses as a matter of semantics. One person’s depression might be another person’s deep thinking. I sometimes wonder how valuable these distinctions are. I guess they give pdoc’s some direction in prescribing medications.

I think depression is labeled so when it becomes severe enough to interrupt daily function and when one seeks help for it. Deep thinking rarely pushes one to do so.
Schizoaffective depressive type. Original diagnosis was major depression with psychotic features. It’s six of one and a half dozen of another. Treatment whether it’s therapy, or medical management goes according to observation and symptoms. Labels are for insurance and community programs.

I have schizoaffective (got in over my head at a young age type)
Didn’t even know there were types, but this has consistantly been my primary diagnosis for over a decade, along with anxiety and for a brief while PTSD. I do have mood instability though so I can’t entirely refute this diag. I miss my PTSD though, because I was so traumatized that I didn’t even know I’d experienced trauma until it was too late.

When I was 17 I was diagnosed with disorganized Schizophrenia.
lately my doc has been itching to change my label to schizoaffective…
Except I still get the negative wax build-up.
So for now… it’s Sz with a mood element.
Sometimes… It sort of makes me irritated… other times… don’t worry about it and just be glad my meds work

Early dx of major depression, next one was schizophrenia, then changed 15 years ago to complex PTSD with dissociative features plus major depression.

Paranoid personality disorder. I am definitely prone to paranoia but disagree with the dx as I don’t fit the descriptors. I prefer to see myself currently as having primary anxiety with secondary mood and thought symptoms.
