Went from psychosis NOS to the real OG chronic schizo up in here. Have had an anxiety disorder slapped on in addition. I’ve been schizophrenic for almost three years now. It started when I was a senior in high school and now Im a junior in college. Feels like a lifetime but also feels like it was just a bad dream and still is some days. Overall I almost have a four year degree in being a high functioning schizophrenic, so I can’t complain too much. That’s one way to look at being a high functioning schizo, add up the years of functioning while schizophrenic and give yourself a PhD in being high functioning after nine years. Or at least that’s what my brain just crapped out onto an online forum. My buddy is almost a PhD in being schizo, he’s been highly functioning since he was like 21 and is 29 now.
I hope to get multiple fictional doctorates in being a nutjob, like have a new PhD in being a nutjob every nine years that I keep functioning highly.
One of my first psychiatrists on paper dxed me with Anxiety NOS - but told my Mother that I had schizophrenia - I am not sure why he did this but he did prescribe me Navane a powerful typical antipsychotic - He was a horrible doctor in general for many reasons. My second psychiatrist diagnosed me with Bipolar disorder - this was when I was hospitalized - I carried this dx for many years - later I was diagnosed bipolar by one psychiatrist - she later changed it to schizoaffective, I carried this dx for many years - my current psychiatrist dxed me with schizoaffective on paper, but told me that I had Bipolar type 1 mixed with psychotic features - I dont know what she wrote down for the Insurance company - I think she could be on the fence with my dx - but I guess she feels that I present myself to be more in the bipolar family - it is very frustrating to me that these doctors are themselves so confused when it comes to my dx
I wonder whether my changes have been because there was changing presentation of symptoms over time or because different pdocs put more or less emphasis on certain symptoms.
All through the various diagnoses I have had a mixture of anxiety/mood/and thought symptoms
In my case, I have a multitude of different symptoms - mood especially depression, anxiety - general and OCD - my thoughts can become murky or clouded and irrational especially when I am anxious or depressed -
Because my symptoms quickly change I guess this confuses a lot of pdocs and therapists - it is difficult for them to diagnose me - the way I present myself varies depending on which symptoms decide to show up
For me stress is a big factor.
do you consider changes within subtype to be “changes”? i kinda don’t really, especially with the new DSM classifications, so i voted zero. if you would consider those to be changes:
paranoid schizophrenia to undifferentiated schizophrenia, back to paranoid schizophrenia again, so two.
Bipolar to schizoaffective to undifferentiated schizophrenia, to paranoid schizophrenia, so three changes
i was paranoid sz with everthing else…now
i am sz with paranoia and everything else…subtle isn’t it !?!
take care
2 pdocs gave me SZA and 2 gave me psychotic disorder NOS…
I believe i have psychotic disorder NOS
My first diagnosis as a little kid was ADD. -1.
Then ADHD-2 (I was still young)
ADHD with OCD-3 (about 11)
PTSD-4- (14)
PTSD with anxiety and depression-5 (15)
leaning towards schizoaffective-6 (16 and a half)
undifferentiated schizophrenia… #7… thus far the longest. (17)
Now my doc want to change it… so number 8 might be coming soon.
