Poll: Are you a feminist?

I mean you can have different opinions but feminism means one thing, and that’s complete equality for both sexes. I do not think I am better than you, for simply being a female. you are equal to me

One aspect of it that really bothers me is the sexual aspect. Equality doesn’t mean we all need to start acting like porn stars because it’s in the western culture to do so. Equality means a woman and a man have a choice of behaving the way they please, without judgement.

It’s a bit idealistic really, but the whole “a woman needs to be thin, eyebrows shaped, legs waxed, vagina waxed” or she’s not appealing. ■■■■ that ■■■■. A woman should be what she’s comfortable in being, do what she’s comfortable in doing.

The amount of people who don’t understand this is too damn high.

I believe not only in equality within sexes, races, religuons, etc…but with most animals too. After all we all have a brain, spirit, consciousness, soul…except mosquitos, they have no soul!

Yeah I find that in general (norms of beauty) a difficult topic. On the one hand, I think if not for norms somewhere along the road, and there may be many different ones, how are we to judge someone beautiful in the first place? To do entirely without would seem to me to be entirely indifferent about appearence. Of which we could use a little more definitely, but entirely doing without it? I don’t know. Maybe I’m conservative, but it can also be nice to judge someone to be pretty sometimes. But maybe it’s not really an all or nothing issue, I mean, you can prefer this over that without being a dick about it. Letting someone else’s own decision weigh in more.

That’s not what people turn it into though. It means different things to different people.

Just like how Donald Trump turned the whole racist thing into being acceptable; while you could talk to the average supporter of his and they will tell you he just cares about America.

Same thing is happening here with you and me.

This is a hard question for me to answer.

Where I work, men and women are paid equally, have the same superannuation and the same access to leave and entitlements and the same opportunities for higher duties and raises. So I’m not actively demanding equality for men and women because I have the comfort of already living in that world.

Unfortunately it isn’t the same everywhere in Australia. Most workplaces aren’t equal and I don’t understand why that is.

As for the sexuality side of things, I am a feminist. I don’t think women should be objectified but I am also in dismay at the advertising industry and media in general which does objectify women.

I don’t know what to do really. I’d like to be more active but I feel hopeless about the situation because I think there needs to be a societal change and I don’t feel powerful enough to enact that.

Not long ago, beauty was being chubby. But it’s not what I’m refering, actually, I meant the ideals of what is equal. Now men started waxing their bodies and we even came up with the name “metrosexual”, but god forbid if a woman goes outside with hairy legs. Leggings as pants are acceptable to thin girls, is viewed as disgusting to chubby girls, and men are now starting to wear thight jeans and it’s fashion, who knows how long until leggings for men are a thing too. Equality is fun and all, but there are limitations created by industries.

Like in the fashion world, clothes are made by designers XS, a M is considered plus-sized model, but you don’t see chubby men being sold off as plus sized models, that would just be disgusting right?

I am a lot more in favor of women’s rights in the developing world than I am with their rights in the developed world. In places that are backwards, like Afghanistan, Sudan, Mozambique, to name a few, women are treated abominably. What I don’t like is these women who take issue with the way a man sits on the subway, and other petty issues like that.

bahaha yeah it’s just splitting hairs when you do that. In New York, I think Men have to cross their legs like a women.

I was told to exercise my position of power when pouring someone a cup of tea once…

@Minnii That fashion example has so many mindfucks in it it makes my head hurt

Yeah well, I blame my eating disorder on the fashion industry. I just ate a whole bag of chips just because of this thread. Screw the diet!

I do understand your concept, and all I can say is that real feminists are the ones who stand up for men too, not just women.

but ironically enough, it’s because of women that you think that way. ‘dislike’ feminism. because they are stupid and sexist.
talk to a real feminist if at all, you’re wasting time otherwise.
we are equal, apathy.

Like I said, I just don’t like the name. If it were about equality between the sexes, why not just call it that? “Gender Equality” is a thing I’ve heard, why not just go under that banner?

I agree with you there as well, but the thing is, men have been superior to women for a long time. that’s why it’s called that.

So is the name meant to propel gender equality, or just women’s rights? Because the latter has the chance to get out of hand.

Such a shame ! I’d much rather eat food. Fighting seems to be in the air here. A lot of insecurity going on. There are both good and bad ways to fight.

You can “manspread” all you want as long as you don’t encroach on my seat. :joy:

I believe in seatism, my seat is my seat and your seat is your seat, and never the twain shall meet. :smirk:

both. men used to and still somewhat have more rights than women do, and I don’t think that’s fair at all… i believe that women should have more rights; simply because they have less than men. it deserves to be equal.
it’s just like when people say ‘black lives matter’ well yeah, all lives matter, but blacks are widely attacked physically and verbally in the US. they aren’t privledged like the whites are, and that’s a fact.
kinda off topic, but not really
