Police officer ambushed in my town (and thoughts on Dallas)

Police officer ambushed here where I live in Ballwin, Missouri (St Louis county).
The shooting took place right near the parish where I used to talk to a priest, Father Foy.
I live right near where the suspect was apprehended after fleeing in his car.

My two cents on Dallas… Prayers for Dallas won’t work… the prayers weren’t answered last time and it won’t be any different this time. If you believe in God then you also believe that he gave us the ability to act, in concrete and personal ways with other people.

All you can do is be kind to blacks if you’re white and kind to whites if you’re black. I went to Wendy’s tonight and made a joke to the black girl behind the register, didn’t get a smile but she reciprocated by offering to help me carry my food ten minutes later. If this kind of interaction can happen between just 1% of the black/white population, change can begin.

I had a nice convo with a black girl today at qdoba

Then again I live in a part of the country with less racial tension

Actually all three people working were black females and I had a nice exchange with them all.

Good to hear! Spread the kindness!

Although Qdoba uses to much salt in their mixed veggies :frowning:

Closest thing I’ve done lately in this regard is I gave a sz who was black a ride home when I was at the doctors. Apparently something happened and the person who was his ride didn’t show up. Would do more but I don’t get out of the house that much.

One time I was checking out at the grocery counter, and I had a real nice conversation with the young black girl who worked there. However, at the time I was at odds with the community, and I thought everyone was trying to rip me off. I’ve seen other people get that delusion when they were in that situation. Every time you buy something when they’re giving you change you’re thinking “that doesn’t seem right”. I think they’re trying to cut me short on my change. I didn’t say anything, but after I checked out I checked my receipt carefully to see if I had been cheated. I think it hurt the girl’s feelings. I blew it on that one.

I really eujoy Q High BP Be damned

A black guy was EXTRA friendly to me yesterday as I got out of the elevator

I wonder if this has anything to do with him reading your post

Like he was UNUSUALLY friendly…for anybody to be.

Maybe I’m looking into things too much…but glad Obama is condemning this all and say we need to unite…maybe some people are listening. I was caught off guard by this mans friendly nature!

I don’t understand the racial hatred. Horrible. :frowning:

We’ve taken steps back. Fortunately here in the northeast there’s little racial tension. Although there is segregation and injustices still. But we don’t get along for other reasons than race. If Bridgeport , ct started rioting for some reason I wouldn’t go outside…but they have good police.

There’s not much where I live in Western Canada, except around some First Nations communities. We’ve got black kids, oriental kids, etc., in my daughter’s school (albeit in small numbers) and there are no problems I’m aware of. Everyone just gets along without fixating on skin colour or tone.

Black people in America feel very victimized. When I had the delusion I was black…I would be friendly to african americans and they would be rude to me back. I feel they felt “WHYS this white boy being friendly to me” and it confused them. It kindve made an animosity for a year or two. Both my case workers have been black though and they’re awesome! And all the other black ppl I’ve met in the last year (besides the ones shooting fireworks in the field on 4th of July) have been great.

When I was psychotic I had hallucinations and a delusion that made me think everyone was accusing me of being racist. I tried to be nicer toward any black people, arabic, or hispanic people I met in response. Then they accused me of white guilt. I seems you can never win over hallucinations.

One thing every person needs to know when he or she is stopped by a cop is DON’T CHALLENGE THE POLICEMAN’S AUTHORITY. If you feel like the policeman is abusing your rights, wait until you’ve gotten out of detention and contact an attorney.
