Please talk me out of buying a car!

I am looking at cars on eBay at the moment, and I am really tempted to buy a classic BMW E30!

My project that I am about to finish I have done well out of, and I am thinking of blowing the money on this kind of car.

Really I don’t need it, but I am getting bored of earning money and not spending it on anything

What to do

How much is it going to cost per year to run ?

A car from eBay? Never thought about that. Is there big fees and shipping?

It won’t be much.

I know how to fix older cars, and if anything serious happens I know a good mechanic who’s cheap.

Used to have one of these cars years ago and getting nostalgic of better times

I have bought lots of cars and vans off eBay before and not had too much problem. They’re mostly collection but I think the seller pays a % of final sale fee

If you are asking people to talk you out of it , it sounds like you already know you shouldn’t do it.

Do you already have a car? If so, what’s wrong with it?

I have a work van, but not a car. This is an indulgence, and I am not used to doing that!

Sounds kind of like an impulse buy that you might regret later when you don’t have that cash.

I’d personally give it some time to sink in before you make the purchase. Let that buyers high wear off. If you still want to do it after some time to think on it, then go for it.

Ok, I have closed the window - I will try and distract myself with something else online

BMW’s are notoriously unreliable automobiles.

They are also expensive to fix

You also need an import mechanic to work on them

All cars require maintenance, you can use forums and YouTube to learn to work on them yourself, typically German is more expensive to fix but also life’s short and it might be worth it.

I think if you’ve had the experience before. You don’t need to relive it.

I bought a MacBook not long ago because I missed having one before I fell ill. I’ve since thought it’s been a pointless purchase, or a bad idea rather.

You don’t know when you’ll need the savings for something that pops up.

I’d say kill the temptation; nostalgia is only fondness of memory not of actual experience. If that makes sense

Luxury cars are a waste of money.

Never again.

If you’ve got more money than you know what to do with, I’ll take some.

I am going to see a rav4 at noon tomorrow it is listed at 9200. I hope I get it. I don’t have a car currently. They keep selling before I get to them.

Save it. Good times are followed by bad. You’ll need that cash stash more than the vehicle.

If you think it makes you happy - and you are sure you’ll be okay financially, it’s okay to indulge in something that makes you happy. Life is short.

Computers and Technology is the few things that make me happy so when I have extra money, I splurge. But I’m careful about money on practically everything else.

You shouldn’t buy a car only certain people can right now
