Plastic bag ban

Is there a plastic bag ban where you live? ours goes in effect in March. Stores are getting rid of them now. Do you have a lot of reusable bags?

We don’t have one here but I wish we did. They create so much waste and litter in the world. I try to get paper bags or reusable ones whenever I can.

Yes we put a levy on plastic bags and it really reduced the amount we were using. I always carry a bag when I go shopping now

I like brown paper bags for my groceries BUT I need plastic bags for scooping soiled cat litter into. You can easily tie off a plastic bag but you can’t with a paper bag. I don’t want the litter getting everywhere in the garbage can. Plus, I want to seal off the smell.

The food pantries here will take all the plastic bags they can get, so ours go to them. When Grama had cats, used 'em for scooping litter. And of course, I used them for dirty diapers way back in the day.

Many of our stores have closed down, so the places with those plastic bag recycling bins just vanished. Only Walmart remains, and I swear they don’t ever empty that bin, the same bags have been there for 5 years.

I have reusable bags that have seen better days, they’re from 2005 when we lived in Milwaukee and I used them at Aldi. But our area still provides bags, so I’ll use them. I use Woodman’s, they use a mix of paper and plastic, but they ask your preference, my kids unload the car and they have a drive up so I don’t load my own groceries either. I tell them to pack them the easiest way for them, but easy enough to grab a few at a time to unload. Still end up with lots of paper bags, they go into recycling bin cause they cannot be used more than once usually, rip too easily.

I don’t know how you can use reusable bags when you order online like I do. And I don’t like paper bags because they attract roaches.

No ban here. We use the plastic bags for dog poops, bathroom trashcans, and emptying the vacuum cleaner canister among other things. They come in handy. If there ever were a ban in the grocery stores, I would just buy Glad or Hefty small trash bags and do the same things with them. No biggie.

no ban here, but they encourage people to buy re-usable bags. I really need to buy some for my groceries. when I was in Colorado last august, they would put your groceries in a plastic bag, but charged you $.20 cents a bag.

They charge us 15 cents per bag here.
But now that I have an EBT card, they give us the bags for free.

A couple of stores have banned them, now we just use paper. I don’t use the reusables because of health concerns. Too much work to soak and wash them after they’ve had raw meat in them and it could be a problem if one misses getting washed (who wants trichinosis?).

We recycle pretty religiously, so there’s not much from our house hitting a landfill that isn’t compostable.

We are getting a ban soon. I’ve been using my bags and bin for awhile now.

One store here has removed them and you can have a paper bag for 10 cents, others will follow, I use the same bag all the time, which a store clerk said it was nasty and she gave me a free new one lol

They charge .10 a bag here. I bought these, they are fantastic. Meat doesn’t go into the bags

They are huge and the handle is long enough to go over your shoulder which makes it easy to carry up the stairs for me. If you’re doing big shopping you may want to order two sets. I get by fine with the 3 bags for just my sister and I with me running to the store once a week or so, I’ve so far just used to bags at once. They are super sturdy and look like they will go through the wash nice.

I made a bag for putting tobacco in so I could make an infusion, it had a draw-string. Oh Chai gai spice of New Orleans, why did you make me jealous of ganja, grass and lemon peel;

You have to use cotton bags 173 times to break even with the environmental cost of using a plastic bag. Cotton bags take a ton of resources to make.

Polypropylene bags seem like a good, durable replacement for the standard plastic bag though. They can last for ages.

I did not know that when I bought these bags, but I do feel that these bags will last me the rest of my life, so I will definitely get the use out of them.

We’ve had a plastic bag ban for years. A lot of places went to paper. Now we’ve got a law in place that you have to either use reusable bags, or pay 5 cents for a paper bag. I think some places also offer reusable/sturdier plastic bags for that 5 cents. But not many.

I use neither, I stick all my groceries in my pocket.

I’m especially evil – I still use plastic straws.
