Plank competition

The plank exercise has been in the UK media lately along with sitting against the wall unsupported.

It is said to have numerous health benefits and lowering blood pressure is one of them.

I started yesterday and started with a two minute hold. Today I held for 2minutes 30 seconds.
I am doing it three times a day.

I haven’t started from nothing though as for years I have been doing 100 press ups every morning.

To do a plank you rest on your elbows, keep a straight back and balance on the top of your toes while engaging your abs.

It is easier than press ups but would be a great introduction and bridge to eventually doing press ups.

Start with 60 seconds and do it 3 times a day for newbies.

Can you hold it for 60 seconds? Try it and see.

It can be intense and time may seem to slow towards the end.

You sound fit!

I just go for walks and exercise on the bike.

Not enough cardio for me. Risperidone stops me from walking more than two miles as I get serious cramps and my legs cease up, but I can do these exercises well enough.

I get random muscle cramps when I do movements on Invega. It can be quite painful.

I’m gonna try it right now.

Invega is based on risperidone apparently.

Yes I know. Invega is the newer version.

Both were developed in Belgium.

@labratmat I’ve had a problem where I can’t gain muscle from strength training, I think due to the meds. Do you still think I should try the plank?

I’m no doc, but if you have a healthy heart then you can’t go wrong.

So do you do it with the elbows touching the ground or your arms straight out.

What I like about it is that it is not too daunting, easy to do and doesn’t require any equipment.

A press up sounds hard though.
