Placebo med?

I think my dr is giving me placebo meds for my autoimmune disease and precancerous bladder. Supposedly I’m on a real drug that causes nausea etc.

All I have today is a bad headache.

I think my oncologist and rheumatologist teamed up and decided not to really treat me.

They want to see if I say I’m better without treatment so they can say my only issue is sz. It’s all in my head.

The medicine isn’t real. What should I do?

Why do you think its placebo?

No they wouldn’t do that. It’s unprofessional

I’m glad you’re having so few symptoms

Because I’m not having any side effects except a headache

It’s not a placebo.

You may not have the same side effects as everyone else.

More likely, you will get nauseated in the coming days.

I’m sorry you have this feeling.

It’s just not true.

I hope your headache gets better soon.

Thanks @Charles_Foster . I’m trying to calm my mind. I’m feeling super paranoid about my meds and drs.

You’re having a lot of medical issues and complications.

I think it’s normal when dealing with so many healthcare professionals to have some doubt.

Especially considering things aren’t making you feel better.

The doctors are working to get things straight.

Keep taking your meds.

You’re on the right track, but I know it’s not fun.

Just want to throw another hat in the ring with the rest saying they arent giving you placebos

It doesnt make any sense for them to give placebos for conditions you are diagnosed by a medical professional. They would be open to lawsuits if they gave you placebo and your conditions continued to worsen because of it.

Is that still the case if I have mental illness?

I’m quite positive it is.

Two meds, two pills. But only 1 that’s expected to make me not feel well.

Ok. I’ll try to keep saying that to myself. I think I’m having some kind of paranoia episode. I’m getting triggered really easily right now

It’s understandable. I imagine you are under a lot of stress. You know how stress can affect schizophrenics.

Placebos I would think are for getting statistics/trials and whatnot or maybe when they think something is only in the patients mind.(even then I would question the use)

You have diagnosed medical conditions. They arent going to give you placebos for that.

I mean, these chemotherapy meds can legitimately cause nausea, tiredness, sickness etc. but usually at higher doses when treating cancer. You are at a low dose so side effects will be minimal. When they increase it, you will probably feel more side effects. Trust me. I’m on methotrexate and it gives me very few side effects. Usually they do things that you don’t feel, like lower your white blood cell count.

Yeah they list all possible side effects on every medication but you won’t necessarily get any or all. It depends. Enjoy that this med isn’t giving you trouble. You have something you don’t need to stress about in this moment. Hope this helps.

I don’t think they’re allowed to give placebos. They only do that stuff in experiments with the patients consent I think. If doctors were allow to just randomly gave out placebos it wouldn’t make sense. What if someone got a second opinion and told that doctor they were taking a med when really it was a placebo etc. would cause too much confusion.

I’m sure they’re not allowed to do that. Seems like it’s delusion.

When I was a teenager my dr gave me placebos instead of antibiotics. My infection got so severe I almost died and spent a long time in the hospital.

I don’t know if they’re still allowed to do that or not but that fact doesn’t help my paranoia.

Luckily @sweetpotatocasserole helped me calm down.
