Can doctors prescribe placebos

I know they can and do. But if my pill bottle says xyz on it, is it xyz? Just wondering because they put me on the “generic” version of something, but i couldnt find a single picture on google that looks like these new pills.

Ask the pharmacist

I did and he told me it was the same thing. Guess i need to learn to trust people

I’m not sure that’s possible  only in clinical trials. And even then you would be told that there’s a chance you’d receive a placebo.

They’re not allowed to prescribe placebos in my country, so probably not in your country either. There are cases where they prescribe meds that are almost placebos.

If your pill bottle says xyz, then xyz is in it. And generics are not placebos.

There is nothing wrong with generic meds. Loads of companies make them and don’t forget these meds are pretty specialist so not a great deal of people take them.

A dr. would get in so much trouble giving someone a placebo. I really doubt a dr. would risk it.

No doctors cannot give placebos unless like everhopeful said it’s a clinical trial that would be a huge malpractice suit otherwise. This sounds like your paranoia acting up.

I don’t think your meds are placebos, but don’t feel bad for thinking this; I have had similar fears from time to time.

It would be illegal for a pharmacy to sell a placebo.
Not that they would have any to begin with.

Likely not a placebo. It is not ethical or considered standard practice for a physician to prescribe a placebo in the traditional sense of the word. Nevertheless, placebo effect-prescribing happens all the time. For example, a patient with a viral-cold is insistent that he needs an antibiotic and the doctor can’t convince him otherwise and ends up writing a script of antibiotic knowing that taking it or not he will get better - which can be considered a placebo of sorts. Docs are only human.

Generics often change based on manufacturing. My pills look different a lot, same prescription.
