2016 Chev Impala. Full load, leather interior, about 40,000 km on it. Previous owner babied it and the dealership took care of all the rock chips and scratches. Got rid of my van and my GrandAm.
Nice buy. The Impala is a sleeper (all 3 models are faster than most people would think), has 4 doors, very spacious, and excellent brakes.
Nice.
Yeah, I test drove it and went, “WHOA!” Couldn’t believe it’s only $20K. Got $5K down and got $4K for trade-in, so only had to finance $11,000 over 2 years. Pretty happy about that.
I had originally gone in to look at smaller trucks, but the only one I could find at a comparable year and mileage was about $38,000. Dropping an additional $1000 into a hidden hitch for the Impala and getting a small utility trailer to pull behind it so I can take yard waste to the community compost heap.
Getting Mrs. Pixel a new van next. Still shopping around for that.
Good value (don’t you love depreciation?).
How about a 2-year-old Honda CR-V for Mrs. Pixel?
She’s got her eye on a 2016 Dodge Caravan with the Stow N Go system and motorized doors on both sides. We have to take parents to medical appointments in the city, so we need a vehicle that can seat five comfortably on a longer drive with room for some luggage. There’s also the fact that Princess Pixel is now taller than me (I’m five foot ten) and she’s not sixteen yet. She can’t do cramped back seats.
The Mrs. actually wants a Hummer H1, so the Caravan is probably a compromise between the Hummer and a Honda!
I have a Honda CRV and it’s pretty roomy in the front and back seats. I’m pretty tall and that’s one of the reasons I chose the CRV. It would actually be a good first car for your daughter. Perfect for college since you can roll the rear seat forward to make a sort of flat bed for moving stuff which comes in handy.
You so funny. We’ll cover a portion of her schooling costs. If she wants a car, she’s paying for it.
Well then you go can pass my recommendation on to her.
We’re probably not talking for a few days. She’s actually THAT torqued over my trading in the 2003 GrandAm GT. She figured it was going to be hers when I got a new vehicle. It was super-charged with extra injectors, a handling package, water injection, frame stiffeners, and an upgraded tranny to handle the extra power. I obviously didn’t drive it very often.
Are you gonna let her drive your new car? Or is she gonna be driving in mum’s (un-cool) new van.
I had to ride a hideous orange Schwinn bike to high school cause I didn’t have a car. I can feel your daughters pain. (cue: violins playing sad music)
She can drive the new car. It’s not quite as fast as the GrandAm was, but is surprisingly peppy for a family sedan. Handles pretty good, too. The Princess has her Learner’s Permit and is actually a fairly attentive driver. I just don’t see the point of her blowing a lot of $$ on a vehicle she won’t be using that much as most of what she needs in town is within walking distance at this time of year. In the winter, yeah, you drive.
You may want to check out the Toyota Sienna and the Honda Odyssey (got those from Consumer Reports).
May not have the doors you need…forget that.
We only have GM and Dodge dealers in town. I’m making sure I support local businesses with these purchases.
Our family car was a 1972 Impala. It was nice, nothing fancy. It was pretty much stock, it had a radio but no cassette player and power windows but those were the only extras. My friend had a lowered 1964 Impala Supersport.
By the way: C’mon, get the kid a car!
I’ll start a GoFundMe. Expect to see you hitting that tip jar hard and often, bud.
Maybe I spoke too soon.
Had a huge hail storm awhile back like brand new cars going really cheap. Only problem is dents in the cars from hail damage which hasn’t even chipped the paint.
