so i think it was my 5th lesson tonight and it was a different guy and he was really good, my head was a bit fkd up bc i had a headache then coffee and i’ve been a bit fuzzed up since my friends death but i just said to him, i’m at this level, this is what i was getting into and we started from there,
so ican just about do the skye boat song but not very well but i had a really nice thought and i think i’m going to get a really good book of songs that are at my level so i can practice what i have learnt so far in more depth, i just sort of realised that i have learnt something and that i can do something with it now, hope i can find a really good book of really easy songs lol
Sorry man. Have you started a thread about this topic? Losing someone dear can be disruptive for a guy who already struggles with MI. Maybe talking about it can ease the bad feelings…
Thanks Andrey, i didnt do a thread but i did mention it in another thread, its ok, i am coping ok, it is very sad but it is out of my hands and i’ve just got to trust that she is in a better place, its the only way i can deal with it.
@everhopeful Jools Hollands is a great pianist, great on the boogie woogie, my teacher today asked why i wanted to play and i said bc i want to be able to play something if i am in the mood as an extension to my feelings, i want it to be therapeutic.
its also bc i need something like this to keep me occupied, i think it will be fun, i couldnt play the guitar and just thought piano wouldnt even hurt my fingers so it should be easier lol.
i’m hoping to play in my clubhouse as they have a piano,
i am very self conscious about it atm though, its like performing, i got pre-stage fright lol, i’d also like to speak in front of my church but i am too shy, i spoke at my friends funeral last week but thats the most i have ever done bc i wanted to say something.
you know the little bit you can play, i am the same that i only know a bit but i’m going to hopefully play at my own level until i get confident enough to move on.
I performed on the big stage twice, as a pre teen. I got the jitters big time !!
Playing in a church would prolly be too much as it requires extra caution and seriousness. Whereas I’m naturally more goofy and easygoing.
Learning an instrument is a fun endeavor. I’m working on the classical guitar atm. I tried the steel stringed acoustic and that hurt my fingers too. The nylon strings on the classical are so much better on the fingers and it’s the style I’m interested in. Best of luck to the both of us.
i’ve been looking for a decent music site to help me improve what i have learnt, sheet music beginners level, i think its starting to get very complicated so i’ll brush up on what i know and see if i can add to it
Good for you @Resilient1! It’s great that you’re taking piano lessons!! That’s wonderful! Keep at it and you will soon be playing all of the masters like me. I’ve been studying piano for the last almost 13 and a half years and it’s so worth all of the hard work. Because in the end, you have a real skill that you and everyone else really enjoys.
I’m now being asked to play at a local nursing home where I volunteer once a week. And, I’m seriously considering doing it. The residents there I consider my good friends and I would love to have the nerve to perform for them on an informal basis. My problem is my anxiety. I used to be an R.N., and the sick and elderly are my element so, I am less likely to get anxious and nervous in that kind of environment. So, I just might try it once and see how it goes. Please pray for me.
how much are you trying to practice? I do better with smaller goals. if your goal is an hour or more but you only practice a few times a week. make it 30 minutes but do it daily not every couple days. a piano teacher told me it is better to be consistent with shorter times daily than longer practice times a couple times a week.
thanks guys, I’ve printed out a rewards sheet and my teacher gave me a good tip to time my sessions so i set my alarm for ten minutes and i try to reach my goal, i did it and it worked.
This Friday i’m going to a music library so it should be interesting as i didnt know that existed before, i’ll let you know how i get on.
I practice for an hour, six days a week. I’ve been doing that for years and years now. It is definitely worth it. I’ve seen real progress that way. It would not have worked any other way because I do not have natural talent.
