Phosphatidylserine

I don’t know if any of you tried the supplement. My mother found it at a sale and took it without knowing what it was and it helped me a lot after just a week so I came back to the forum to suggest it to you guys. I found this as far as studies go in relation to Phosphatifylserine and Schizophrenia:

I’m taking a tiny dose too compared to how it’s usually taken, just 100 mg every other day at breakfast. While the suggested dosage is 100 mg at each of the three main meals of the day, which is basically 6 times the dose I’m taking and for me it had a major impact already, noticeable to say the least, clearly it’s not like this for everyone or it would be a known supplement, still if you feel like giving it a go… It helped me.

I eat enough foods containing this to not bother with the supplement, but it’s important enough I modified my diet for it. Might be worth the supplement if your diet isn’t adequate.

What impact did it have on you?

I’ll order some next month from iherb.com

It’s expensive though.

I just checked for interactions and this is what came up

Yes, phosphatidylserine can interact with certain medications—especially those that affect the brain’s cholinergic system.

The most notable interactions include:

  • Anticholinergic drugs (used for conditions like Parkinson’s, asthma, or overactive bladder): These may counteract phosphatidylserine’s effects, since PS can enhance acetylcholine activity43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054.
  • Cholinergic drugs (like those used for Alzheimer’s): Combining these with PS might amplify acetylcholine-related effects, potentially increasing side effects such as nausea or dizziness43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054.
  • Blood thinners: While not as well-documented, some sources suggest caution when combining PS with anticoagulants due to its potential influence on platelet function.

Because PS can subtly influence neurotransmitter systems, it’s always wise to check with a healthcare provider before combining it with any prescription meds—especially if you’re managing a condition like schizophrenia.

A host of stuff. First of all over a week it fixed like 80% of my depersonalization. Then mentally I gained a ton of focus. I used to feel constantly wrestling to keep up, now I just follow without strain. The level of ease it put back into my moment to moment is uncanny. Even when I felt better I used to feel like it couldn’t last, now I feel better and I have no sense of trouble on the horizon.

Now let me be frank, I doubt it’ll help most people like it helped me, if it did it would be a known quantity, especially since there has already been a study with schizophrenics. However the study did find benefits, so it seems like there is some reason to at least give it a go, my personal experience aside. I wish you luck!

Thanks for the explanation!

I’ll definitely order it and try it next month. I’ll update this thread with how I get on.

It’s one of those things where I’m sure I get a mild boost from it, but not the rocket boost I was hoping for. Every little bit counts, though. Right?

I don’t know if this is relevant

Edit: According to AI, it’s not an issue.

Actually, current research suggests the opposite—phosphatidylserine (PS) may offer some protective benefits for brain health, especially in the context of age-related cognitive decline and mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa16205443dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa16205443dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054.

Phosphatidylserine is a naturally occurring phospholipid found in high concentrations in brain cell membranes. It plays a key role in maintaining cellular structure, supporting neurotransmitter activity, and facilitating communication between neurons43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054. Some small clinical trials have shown that PS supplementation might slightly improve memory, attention, and mood in older adults or those with cognitive impairment43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa16205443dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054.

That said, the evidence is still considered preliminary. The effects tend to be modest, and long-term safety data is limited. Importantly, there’s no evidence that PS increases the risk of Alzheimer’s disease—if anything, it’s being explored as a potential supportive therapy43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054.

If you’re thinking about taking it, it’s always a good idea to check with a healthcare provider, especially if you’re on other medications or managing health conditions.

This is one of those substances it is very easy to be deficient in as the main food source is organ meats, which most people today eat little of, if any.

You can get it from things like fatty fish, egg yolks and soy lecithin as well, but in lesser quantities.

I had some PS lying around. Will give it another go.

Well I tried it, but got some bad cardio symptoms I never felt before. I’m not sure it was the PS, but that was the only new thing in my regimen, so will stay safe and discontinue.

Actually I like liverpaste pretty good, so will just eat some of that and see how I do.

What dose did you take? What AP are you on ?

I took 200mg divided in 2 doses. On Zyprexa.

That’s a bit of a concern. I was going to try It for myself and if it worked out, I was going to try it on an elderly relative. But I won’t do that now. I’ll just use it myself.

To be honest I’m not sure if it was cardio symptoms or sharp pain from my upper back near the chest. It may not be related to the supplement.

yeah, maybe try it yourself first and see what happens.

Ok. Mine arrived today.

I just took my first pill on an empty stomach (you’re supposed to take it with food).

I’ll keep updating the thread.

Just took my 2nd pill , this time with food.

I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but I had some heart palpitations after the first one.

Right.. I’ve taken the 3rd and final pill of the day. Without food again.

I don’t really notice any effects, good or bad yet.

It’s slightly stimulating at a dose of 3 pills (300mg in total).

But it has a half life of only 8 hours so it’s not really concerning.

I took a 100mg pill just now with food.

It doesn’t seem to be affecting me in either a good or bad way, so I’ll try giving it to an elderly relative I’m looking after. They have issues with memory so it might help. I’ll report back.
