Phosphatidylserine - Best supplement for restful night sleep

Hi all, thought of sharing this information with you all who struggle to get good night sleep for various reasons.

Phosphatidylserine is a natural food supplement which have various benefits and most useful one is it reduces cortisol, the stress hormone and due to that it can give deep restful sleep at night. Cortisol lowering helps in workout and muscle recovery too. Phosphatidylserine is very good for improving memory. In fact its the only food supplement approved by FDA for improving memory. Its very useful for lowering anxiety and thus useful in all anxiety related issues like general anxiety, social anxiety, OCD, depression etc. Its one of the best natural antidepressant too without causing memory problems like SSRI, serotonin based antidepressants.

Phosphatidylserine comes in two forms, soy based and soy free (sunflower based). Its best to take soy free version and its more useful for improving sleep quality when compared with soy version.

It can be bought from online sites like amazon and various food supplements companies sell it. Jarrow, Now Foods, Swanson etc are few top brands to choose from.

It can be taken either morning or at night and it doesn’t cause drowsiness like sleep pills and you can notice the effect on sleep after the first dose itself.

Regards.

PHOSPHATIDYLSERINE

OverviewUses

Uses & Effectiveness?

Possibly Effective for

  • Age-related mental decline. Phosphatidylserine seems to improve attention, language skills, and memory in aging people with declining thinking skills. Most research has used phosphatidylserine from cow brains. But most phosphatidylserine supplements are now made from soy or cabbage. It is not as well known whether these newer products made from plants have the same benefit. But there is early evidence that plant-derived phosphatidylserine also improves memory in people with age-related memory loss. Also, some research shows that taking a product containing plant-derived phosphatidylserine enriched with the fatty acid DHA helps improve memory and attention in older women complaining of memory loss. The product seems to work best in people with less severe symptoms.

  • Alzheimer’s disease. Taking phosphatidylserine can improve some of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease after 6-12 weeks of treatment. It seems to work best in people with less severe symptoms. But phosphatidylserine might become less effective over time. After 16 weeks of treatment, progression of Alzheimer’s disease seems to overcome any benefit provided by phosphatidylserine. Most research has used phosphatidylserine from cow brains. But most phosphatidylserine supplements are now made from soy or cabbage. Researchers do not yet know how phosphatidylserine made from these plant sources compares with phosphatidylserine made from cow brains in terms of effectiveness for Alzheimer’s disease.

Phosphatidylserine derived from sunflower is very effective for improving night sleep quality. May be all other mental benefits including memory might be attributed to better sleep quality produced by it as lack of quality uninterrupted sleep is the reason for most mental and nervous system based issues.

I take phosphatidylserine. I do well.

Soy or sunflower version taking? Both have different effects. Soy makes bit more cheerful but not useful for deep sleep as it have some stimulating effect like lione’s mane mushroom while sunflower based or soy free version gives deep restful sleep at night just like we slept in early childhood days.

Valerian root extract used to do the trick, after benzos, nothing can make me fall asleep, maybe because I have somnolence from risperidone…

Valerian causes dizzy feely just like benzo. Also it worsens memory and cognition while phosphatidylserine improves memory and at the same time helps to sleep too. Try phosphatidylserine soy free version. It really works. Can take it first thing in the morning and remain alert throughout the day and still can get good sleep at night.

I have taken the soy type, but currently my advisor wants me to take the Sunflower type.

Yes sunflower version is best for improving sleep quality.

If cost is an issue . . .
