Any philosophers in the house? Want to find a new perspective on this crazy world we live in, any suggestions?
Should be on ‘longue’ I apologize
I took philosophy in college. Thought I would like it. Absolutely hated that class.
Haha It’s a lot of people talking a lot about nothing I suppose
I was once quite experienced in the field of phenomenology (science of the mind), but have expereinced some cognitive decline the past last years.
Phenomenology is about the meeting between the subjective experience, and how it interacts with the pshysical world and other minds.
According to phenomenology we are not products of our neurology, but a meeting between our neurology (brain) the social world, our own true or false narratives about ourselves and the influx of other minds (beings) + our sense of time.
The mind/body question is what I find most interesting. And explaining consciousness. Because science, for all its worth is still in the dark regarding the one experience we all share… subjectivity
Thank you for mentioning the body, it’s crucial in phenomenology and is often overseen in other kinds of philosophy.
Body+time+the phenomenons (physical world)+ social world + our narratives = phenomenology to put it very short.
If there are two things that have stuck with me through Reading philosophy, it is to understand what is within our control, and what is not. This avoids a lot of misery. The other, is simply kindness. Kindness is the highest wisdom, as some would say. Or enlightened self-interest, if you prefer
There are of course tens of thousands of pages to be read, but these are the two things that have stuck with me the most
Good to see you @bluebutterfly . How goes to fishing?
It’s crazy all the different variables that have to be considered in being a self aware individual. Sometimes I think that’s why we go mad, because the complexity is too much to comprehend. I’ve recently been questioning what ‘I’ even means. I try to get to a point that’s fundamentally what ‘I’ is, but I just find it’s a bunch of bodily functions and random opinions
And emotional states
Phil Osophy was a dreamer
I don’t know if this is philosophy but I wonder about the self and the voice that knows better than you.
Who’s that voice, is it other people, is it god?
Is it that part of you that is able to look at your actions/thoughts critically?
I’m no philosopher, but I consider myself a nihilist
I go by the great Popeye’s philosophy,“I think, therefore I yam what I yam and that’s all I yam.”
@Falseprophet you just mentioned the hardest question in philosophy in general. The meaning of “I”. I don’t know what it means, and i think no one does, we just have to accept that the meaning of life perhaps is a quest for what it means to be “I”
Fishing goes bad @Cragger. I was so exhausted i only fished once at La Gomera, and without any luck. Today i slept 13 hours in a row and i am back, stronger than before the trip. I don’t regret i traveled, but i will sure make it easier next time
I like nietszche
That’s too bad about the fishing, I hope you still enjoyed your holiday. It sounds like paradise
