I watched a lot of videos on Philosopers on YouTube and it gets me down, it seems so dark and lifeless. I guess I’m not qualified to judge by just watching videos but I’m not pursuing it either. And religion is out. Chinese thought doesn’t interest me. Eastern religion seems exotic to me but isn’t really just about being a good person? I’m not inspired by poetry, so I won’t try and learn that. There’s psychology and anthropology, which interest me some. Writing fiction too. Mathematics is something I don’t care to learn. I do balance my checkbook well, no joke. I have to learn to love a loveless life. It’s possible to live without sex, if you have to. I’ll cuddle up with a book but not one about philosophy, yuck! I don’t need to worry about being a high brow intellectual ruining my fun, it ain’t gonna happen. I’ve been whittled down. What subject are you into?
Have you looked into Taoism? It’s the only philosophy that really resonates with me. I think it’s the most chill of philosophies. It’s all about going with the flow of life.
Philosophy made me realize I have no meaning in my life, lol. I’m not too into Taoism. Maybe Zen.
I just self indulge all day. I need a job, I guess but I’m too burnt out.
I disagree. Philosophy promotes big thinking… evolution of thought.
Does anyone understand Jordan Peterson?
honestly don’t know much about zen. Actually I was talking before I became Ill. Now I’m just a nihilist.
Q: How many Philosophers does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: Fish
I think Jordan Peterson is a quack
You know there’s something you can try if you have poverty of thought, listen to radio programs, podcasts, audiobooks.
I don’t read philosophy, but there are snippets of high thought here and there that I like - “Hunger is the best spice”, “If you gaze long enough into the abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.” I like an aphorism here and there. I’ve never read philosophy seriously, though.
His rhetoric is basically just slightly right wing type philosophy, telling people to pull themselves up from their boot straps. Such revolutionary thinking.
I’ll try that, thanks for the recommendation. Just seems my brain isn’t as capable of retaining information anymore these days.
If you judge an apple by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing it is fruitless.

“Since Auschwitz we know what humanity is capable of. Since Hiroshima we know what is at stake”.
- Victor Frankl -
“If I am not for myself, who will be? If I am for myself only, what am I? And if not now, when.”
- Hillel -
Music is my pursuit. I may never achieve any mastery but it still is worthwhile.

“We mustn’t forget that the subjection of women is so great and so old that we often refuse to comprehend the abyss that separates them from us.” Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina.
My therapist once gave me this book.
It really is / was digestable.

Beyond its application in legal theory and bioethics, philosophy is utterly useless. Yes, science has its origins in classical philosophy, but science has evolved very much since then. Relative to each other, they have become radically divergent across time.
As an extremely introverted person I have to disagree with what some are saying about philosophy here. It is personally fulfilling, even though it does bear fruit in terms of personal success etc. Sz raises fundamental questions about reality which I contemplate often, also I am a little obsessed with ironical and analogical reasoning. Sometimes I think about whether ideas actually exist, if the universe is ideas and matter is composed of them. Right now I think that ideas don’t really exist and all there is is stuff. Philosophy is an adventure for the mind, and is the best way to find out things about yourself.
