Pessimistic thinking

Anyone else tend to be pessimistic or think in a negative way if so are you able to change that and how?

A lot of my philosophy about the world is grim, but my philosophy about my personal situation isn’t bad. I know the world is tough, and very few of us get through it untouched.

I try to think positive. If I do start getting negative I try to do something to distract myself. Mornings I’m usually a pessimist though. I wake up and think “why me?!”

I find negative thinking is related to depression. So by fighting depression I think less negative. I try to excersise twice a week, walk for a minimum of 30 minutes each day. Take anti-depressive natural supplements like vitamin-D and bacopa monniera. And be social when I can with family, friends and colleagues.

Yes I get loads of that. It’s hard not to. I am still functional with sz but much less than pre-illness. My job is stressful. My sleep rarely restful. I can’t quit smoking. Etc.

But if I focus on the positives it gets better. I am in reasonable physical health. My family is doing ok. I have a job and live independently. I have reliable friends. I am still young enough to hope for things to get even better. Maybe a medicine tweak or a few changes here and there, I might have more energy.

Oh and I still believe in a higher power. Helps a lot when feelings tend to go south.

I’m fully negative. I’ll probably will be a master in pessimistic thinking and talking. I neglect most or all things that get offered to me. I just agree out of comfort.

I think mindfulness meditation and other kinds of meditation may really help you, @Big-Kahuna

Thinking positive is key. I have a history of negative thoughts spiriling out of control. It takes practice to think positive. Just repeating " im ok" " im fine as i am" is helping me lately. Like, dont pressure yourself too much to speak or whatever.

Ive tried for a long time with meditation but my condition still remains chronic there are many ways to meditate maybe choosing the right method maybe.

Yea maybe. I would say…if you wanted to try…research the most widely successful methods. I know mindfulness of breathing and body scans are two of the most popular

My default mode of thought is utterly pessimistic, no positivity whatsoever.

Lol yea sometimes work can be that way I would rather a job that I liked that maybe payed a little less than one that I just did for the money.

Do you like doing anything I know it can be hard but its all about feeling possitive I think.

Try Buddhism monks will tell you basically to be mindful

I try to look for the good in things, though that can be tough.

Visualization, for example, a candle’s flame, is a very popular one too. You can create your own, too: anything that involves being mindful of the sights, sounds, touch sensations, smells, tastes, feelings, thoughts, or any combination of those is a surefire win. There’s also loving-kindness meditation.
