Patients bill of rights

Every p doc should be able to offer this to us. The right to be informed of our diagnosis. The right to know the side effects of medications. The right to make our own final decisions on care. The right to alternative care and options.

Also the right to privacy and access to all our records.

And the right to go to the clinic and buy some … and …

I can’t say it. Ill get suspended.

Pdoc’s could be a little more understanding. They don’t have to endure the side effects of AP medication. They’re so strapped for resources that they don’t really have time to give us very much individual therapy.

UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS -

The UN has ruled that all forced psychiatric treatment is torture, & calls for it’s ban -

The current UK Government is trying to scrap it - But we still have a human rights act -

WTF?!!?!

That looks real?!?

It saved my life, and now they want to ban it?

Not everyone agrees with you about forced treatment.

It should be noted that this UN resolution does approve of forced treatment in some cases:

69.Deprivation of liberty on grounds of mental illness is unjustified if its basis is discrimination or prejudice against persons with disabilities. Under the European Convention on Human Rights, mental disorder must be of a certain severity in order to justify detention.87 The Special Rapporteur believes that the severity of the mental illness is not by itself sufficient to justify detention; the State must also show that detention is necessary to protect the safety of the person or of others. Except in emergency cases, the individual concerned should not be deprived of his liberty unless he has been reliably shown to be of “unsound mind”.88As detention in a psychiatric context may lead to non-consensual psychiatric treatment,89the mandate has stated that deprivation of liberty that is based on the grounds of a disability and thatinflicts severe pain or suffering could fall under the scope of the Convention against Torture(A/63/175, para. 65). In making such an assessment, factors such as fear andanxiety produced by indefinite detention, the infliction of forced medication or electroshock, the use of restraints and seclusion, the segregation from family and community, etc., should be taken into account.90

Although upon closer inspection, it seems that they approve of forced detention in cases where one’s own safety or that of others has been shown to be in danger. It is unclear to me whether this resolution approves of forced medication in such cases as well. It seems to me that such is only disapproved of if it ‘inflicts severe pain or suffering’.

I only want the right to decide my own care if I am able to pass reality testing. Leaving someone in the depths of delusion is cruel. I would have gotten better, sooner if people had been less concerned with my ‘rights’ and more concerned with my health. Just make me take the damn meds, already.

Would you feel the same way if you were elderly and couldn’t take care of yourself?

And what I mean by options are, you can anywhere you wish for care, not stuck at your closest doc office that might be poorly funded or with docs who speak broken English. If it’s any illness like cancer, wouldn’t you do the same?

I totally agree that we need intervention at times, but not to be deceived or lied to or left in the dark.

Yes. Explicitly so.

It would be the best if they couldn’t force you to take the medication. I always say i don’t want the medication when i am having an episode. I often think how happy i would be if i was left in a permanent delusion, it would be awesome.

It’s a good idea to get something set up like the patient bill of rights that also coincide with your own wishes, because I know if I do make it to being a senior, and need a nursing home or nursing care, I want my dignity, my best interest, my sustenance, my wishes especially if I’m paying for it!

Can you see this happening in the future?

I often think of how happy I would be if people would just throw enough money at me so that I could spend my life doing nothing but listening to music and taking pictures. Also, I want a really nice car and a swanky home with a pool. Somewhere warm enough that my face doesn’t hurt outdoors in winter.

Instead, I have to go to work to pay for my own needs and also pay taxes to support the needs of others. The least those others can do is to work towards recovery by taking their meds.

Yeah, I agree Pixel.

You might like my book of poems, This Sky I Know.

I have a poem in there called, Belief, and it mainly says,

Even the birds have faith,
why shouldn’t I?

Its ok for you @shutterbug, you can tolarate your medication. I’ve been having a really hard time tolarating mine. I just can’t accept having depression and sexual side effects for life.

I tolerate THIS medication. Took me over a decade to find it. I just kept buggering on and working with my docs until we found something that worked together. Doctors are usually willing to work with you when you demonstrate a willingness to work with them.

Not on a planet as uncivilised, backward & barbaric as this one - No - Not for hundreds more years yet, if at all?

The most mercy I have is getting disability, and medicare.

It is there for you to if you were not so fortunate no matter how hard you tried or what meds you tried did not get you to a point of not needing it.
