Paranoia in patients with gender dysphoria: A clinical exploration

hate speech hate speech

This isnt hate speech. It’s saying that trans individuals may score higher on certain paranoia profiles than the typical population, but that this does not correlate to a higher instance of psychotic disorders. It’s saying evaluators should not jump to conclusions and diagnose a trans patient as psychotic.

That far from suggests it’s hate speech . Given how people with GD can be treated it’s not surprising IMO that there can be a negative psychological reaction to that. Awareness of how societal factors impact on the well being of people with GD is important .

Being trans does tend to increase paranoia, because so many of us are assaulted or killed out of hate. I’m terrified of public bathrooms. If I use the women’s and I’m read as male, I might get told I don’t belong and make everyone uncomfortable. If I use the men’s and get read as a woman, I could be assaulted or harassed. There are no good options.

Also, people tend to stare, and I just know they’re staring because they’re trying to figure out if I’m a boy or a girl, and it’s rude as heck but I can’t just go up to everyone in a public place and tell them to stop. Confrontation can lead to a much worse situation.

So yeah, trans people experience more paranoia, but it doesn’t mean they’re psychotic. The world really is against us.
