Opinions on a very special gift

My neighbor and closest friend is turning 80 in a few weeks. He’s not a fancy guy. It’s my belief he would prefer this birthday be just another day. His daughter disagrees and has planned an extraordinary birthday event. Black tie, unforgettably beautiful venue, and friends from all over the world. I’m honored to be invited. As much as I dislike a party, I’m excited to see his children that I rarely get time with, excited to meet old war buddies and business partners of all kinds. I’ve been hearing stories for years. The question is, what can I gift him? I know if I asked him what he wanted, he’d say for his wife to be there. She passed about 15 years ago. Or he might say he’d like to not have to go to this party. The man is wealthy and doesn’t need anything. This is a life worth celebrating and I want to give him something special and meaningful. What would you gift such an important person in your life? My wheels are spinning and opinions are needed.

Are you artistic in any way? You could create something yourself and give it to him.

Wonderful thought, but I am artistically challenged. The idea of commissioning an unusual art piece has crossed my mind. Or, moving in another direction, I could make a financial contribution to his favorite cause. I do think that will be a common gift though.

Maybe a framed picture for his wall with a nice motto about wisdom and old age. Or a picture frame? Sometimes just a nice card with a handwritten message means a lot.

A book of memories. Photos. Words. Something to flip through.

I love this idea!

I also like @shutterbug ‘s idea to make an album of memories

I turn 56 next week and Amazon gift cards are always appreciated because I am my own favourite cause. In case you feel like splurging.
