Oops! What do I do now?

I got a letter addressed to my apartment…but it wasn’t addressed to me. I broke the law and opened it anyways. $300 check to some girl. Obviously I’m not gonna cash it…but what do I do? Throw it out? Give it to the front desk? But then I’ve broken the law. Throwing it out seems like the easy route to do but I feel bad this girls not getting her $300…

HELP

Give it to the front desk, say you weren’t paying attention and didn’t realize it wasn’t for you until you opened it. That happens to people all the time.

Do what Rhubot said or you can re-tape it shut with everything in it and tell the same thing to the postman?

That law applies to intentional opening or stealing someone’s mail, not acidental when it was delivered wrong.

Turn it back in. Tell them you open it before you realize it was not address to you. No harm no foul.

I think I’ll drop it in the front desks mailbox with a note written on it

This happened to me once, when I lived my apartment. I just slid it under the door of the right person’s apartment with a note. I never said who it was from, in my note. Just explained what happened.

If only I knew who Jara was I would do that for sure!

Maybe take it to the front desk, then.
