On the subject of iPhones

My son desperately needs a new phone. He’s a hard worker, especially for his age, and I feel like he deserves one. He would be paying for the phone, and I would be paying for the insurance. He wants an iPhone. I know nothing about iPhone, though, being an Android gal myself. But I digress… anyone have any familiarity with the iPhone 8 or the XR? We are looking at these two refurbished options. We want a decent phone that will last and be worth the money. I’m a little worried about the age of the 8 as I understand that Apple stops updating their phones after a couple of years (not sure if this is really the case???). Anyone have any input?

@agent101g I know you recently got a new iPhone. We can’t get him the latest, but do you know anything about either of these?

Anyone else? Help!

Go go Android :blush::blush::blush:

Yeah, I love my Android. My son, however, is into what he considers to be the popular phone. Ah well; what can you do?

Mr. Star has the iPhone X and he hates it.

I have a 7 and I still get updates.

May I ask why? Is there something in particular that makes it lousy?

I would go for the XR

That’s good to know, @TomCat, as he will be stuck with whatever phone he gets for two years. That’s our biggest concern.

Why, @Wave? 1515

It’s got facial recognition and it’s last years phone and the price has gone down.

I have a Samsung Funclub Communicator, pre-touch screen, I’ll try and find a picture of it…

Very valid reasons. Thanks! I really appreciate the input. My Galaxy has biometrics, too, but I only use the fingerprint scanner. I love that thing.

If you don’t me asking, how much do you want to spend?

My mom has the XR. She is in love with it, and it costs half of what the 11 does. I don’t know anything about the 8 though. The XR is a little bigger than the phone I have, and its battery life is a tad shorter, but otherwise I can’t notice much of a difference.

I think this is a slightly newer model than the one I’ve got, but it’s basically the same without the grey side cover:

He’ll be on a monthly plan, and he’s trying to stay under $25/month (Sprint).

I just got the XR about a week and a half ago and I love it! Seems like a sturdy phone and I like the larger screen size upgrading from my old iPhone. Facial recognition is great and I hear they are water resistant.

Honestly I just got the 11 pro to spoil myself. It’s got supposedly a great camera, and it also has an OLED screen instead of LCD, but these are very small things you won’t notice unless you look real close or plan on shooting professional grade movies on your phone.
