On retrying Abilify

I really need to switch off of the Risperdal I’m taking and starting up a new antipsychotic if I’m going to lose any weight.
I was thinking about switching over to Lybalvi but who am I kidding, the only AP that I took that made me lose a lot of weight and didn’t affect me sexually was Abilify.

I’m not going to lose any significant weight being on Lybalvi or most other APs besides Abilify

I know in the past Abilify increased my anxiety but I was also on Tegretol which interacts with Abilify and renders Abilify less effective

Today I am no longer on Tegretol and I need to lose a lot of weight if I’m going to live past 60 as I am obese.

I’ve decided to give Abilify another chance, hopefully the results will be different in a good way.

I’m going to bring it up with my doctor when I see her in a couple of weeks.

I’m going to ask her to see me once a week for the adjustment period.

Being on Risperdal is causing me awful side effects like obesity and sexual dysfunction.
Also my negative symptoms from Risperdal are terrible!

I know that I will be a bit more hypomanic on Abilify but I can’t like this anymore.

Something’s got to give

@Wave Good luck! I recently got off aripiprazole after taking it for probably 15 years. Rexulti is better for anxiety for me for some reason. (I also take olanzapine too)

Why did you come off the Abilify?
Was it because of anxiety or something else?

My previous dr had me on 3 antipsychotics and my current dr didn’t like that. So we had to figure out one to come off of and since the Rexulti and aripiprazole are so alike and Rexulti is less anxiety provoking, she had me come off the aripiprazole.

Yeah it depends on the person
For me I lost over 27 pounds when I was on Abilify for many years.

Good luck. For me weight wise it led to an increase. Insomnia is the worst affect i have one this med, possibly the cause of my constant suicidial ideation also.

I hope the med works good for you. Im thinking of asking for something different nextweek.

Just because I’d like to retry Abilify doesn’t mean my pdoc is willing to put me on it.

She may decide for me to try a different med or she may insist that I remain on Risperdal

The bottom line is that she obviously has a lot of sway.

I’m going to listen to her intently
