Olanzapine Reduction 10mg to 7.5mg

no the other guy Daves17

Oh okay 15151515

I’ve chosen to go to the lowest dose and I still am sedated

What dose are you on?

I’m supposed to be on 5mg, but I’ve tapered down to 2.5mg, but my voices are really mild anyway, so there’s literally been no difference between the lowered dosage for me, 5mg didn’t do anything but make me a bit more sedated

Do you know how long the excess Olanzapine will take to get out of my system?

It’s been a week already, I’m hoping for more improvement.

when I was on zyprexa I had this problem, I reduced mine from 20mg to 15mg and I was able to get up in the morning a little easier.

I’d say pretty quickly, like 1-2 weeks. But when I tried to quit from a high dose I would typically relapse after about a month. So that suggests it takes a month to get it totally out of the system, but just reducing is a bit different, so I think you would see results after 1-2 weeks.

Like what positive symptoms do you suspect?(other than suicide attempt)

A kind of agitation, bad mood etc.

I am on Olanzapine ODT 25 mg per day. I was on 30 mg. I am also on Lexapro 20 mg. I feel like my motivation is not where it should be. I feel lethargic, apathetic, and anhedonic. I am taking two supplements which seem to be helping with something; I am just not quite sure what exactly they are helping me with. I just feel the need to take them everyday. If I don’t take them, I feel weird and out of touch.

That’s a very high dose…. Maybe you could reduce a little?

A “half life” is the amount of time it takes for half of a medication to be removed from your system.

The average half life of olanzapine is 33 hours. It takes about 5 half lives for a medication to leave your system. Therefore 33 hours x 5 half lives is 165 hours for olanzapine to clear from your system.

165 hours / 24 hours per day = 6.875 days

So after approximately 1 week it will be out of your system. In some people olanzapine can have a half life upwards of 50 hours. In that case it could take about 10 days to clear from your system.

But just because it is out of your system doesn’t mean you will completely recover in that same amount of time. Recovery could take days, weeks, months or years. There is no way to tell. For example heroin is removed from your system within a day, but heroin addicts don’t recover in a day.

Thank you…. Feeling a lot better already. Was just hoping for further improvement.

Looking forward to my next reduction. Been told I have to wait six months for that though.

You’re welcome.

I spent 4-5 years reducing my olanzapine from 40mg down to nothing.

Have you recovered fully?

lol, no, I only stopped taking Olanzapine 2 days ago, but so far no problems, other than insane insomnia.

I have my quitting thread here: https://forum.schizophrenia.com/t/quitting-olanzapine-today

I’ve tried quitting before and had problems, this time so far seems to be going better but it is still early days.

I wish I could reduce a little more, but I signed up for a course that begins in the Fall. I don’t want to be playing around with my medication right before my class; I might sabotage it.
