Yes, ours is called Office of Rehabilitative Servicesâ but it sounds like they do the same thing.
Worked with a really nice lady who enrolled me in a very useful job hunting course.
Got hired for a cosmetics retail position, but left around a year and a half later due to symptoms and stuff.
Overall, the experience was super helpfulâ hope it will be beneficial for you too .
@Schztuna Are you in Au UK or CA?
Try volunteer work before you try paid work. It wonât put your benefits at risk and it gives you a good idea of what you can handle. It also gives you good stuff to put on your resume and references if it works out well. And, you could make friends!
They paid for me to go to colege
OVR? Thats cool!
@Schztuna same as you. Must differ state to state just surprised me
Yup. When you apply i think they ask if youre interested in school. I didnt know that and started out looking for a job and they meantioned they can pay for me to go to school. They let me take 3 classes at a time and paid for everything, but sometimes i got my books later than was concenient. But i didntn pay a cent for anything. I took art classes, including photography. And they boughtbme a nice camera that i still have
Yeah, here in California itâs the Department of Rehabilitation. They found me a job to interview for and gave me $100 to buy âinterview clothesâ. I bought a pair of pants, a nice button down shirt and some dress shoes. (clothes were a lot cheaper back in 2000).
I am working with an agency with ticket to work. So far they havenât done anything for me. The last email I sent my counselor wasnât even answered.
I told her I had a couple of interviews last week and asked if I should say I was in a program or something and she recommended I keep my disability under my hat.
I never mention it but most of the jobs I apply for ask you straight up if you have a disability. Right after they ask you if you are a veteran. I donât even know why thatâs legal here.
Can you be more specific about the agency you are working with? Where are you located?
I am in the US. Itâs an agency I got through the ticket to work program. Social Security sent me a text message about going back to work and getting help.
The name of the agency I am working with is called AllSup.
Yeah i hope to work while receiving SSI
I donât think you can work with SSI. I think your payments get reduced dollar for dollar.
I went off SSDI once already. I was working with the VAs vocational rehabilitation program. I wanted them to send me to law school. They wouldnât do it. Said I already had an MBA and two other degrees and could already find a job.
They tried to help me find a job but nothing good. I found my own job.
I had worked with them once before and they told me I was too disabled to work or go to school and wanted to put me on an independent living plan. Itâs some program where you get extra therapy, they help to find you a hobby and pay you an extra monthly stipend.
I refused it and used my gi bill and went back to school and got an associates degree and my airframes and power plant licenses with the FAA to be an aircraft mechanic. I got all As.
I wouldnât expect much.
I wish I had more GI Bill. Going to school for free and getting an extra $2000 a month is a good deal but I used it all. Got a Bachelors and an Associates and a certificate in Project Management and a green belt in six sigma.
While I was in the military I used tuition assistance and got my MBA for free also. I had to wake up at like 5 am every morning and do my school work before going to work so itâs not as cool as the GI Bill but was still a good deal.
