Occupational therapy and intelligence

Anyone else working with an OT?
Are OTs only for people who have a lack of intelligence? Or are they addressing my schizophrenia?

People like my nurse and family and last teachers tell me they seriously doubt i have an iq below average. My teacher suggested i try for math, engineering or a natural science after i dropped out because of the dx. Was that a lie? Am i stupid?

Too stupid to see the obvious -that im completely ■■■■■■■ dumb.

Do you have trouble socialising or with daily routine?

Maybe I am too

I equate peoples intelligence by the level of enlightenment they posses

What do you mean by you equate people’s intelligence by the enlightenment they possess? Are you referring to religion?

No I’m not religious at all.
I mean, I believe the people who have more awareness of the world have a better grasp on reality

Occupational therapy aims to help improve the functioning and ability to take part in meaningful activities of people with schizophrenia, rather than focusing on reducing symptoms.

Thats my scale too to some degree. I meditate and try and practice mindfulness but i havent attained much enlightenment yet. I think i was just being paranoid about my intelligence again. Im probably not the dumbest person on earth…probably.

I think having a good OT can make a difference with daily living skills. I’m thinking OT has come on a lot since the mid 70s to early 80s.

My experience was of people making stuffed animals as day patients or if you were male going in a small carpentry shop. Neither of which I had an aptitude for .Occasionally you got to do some baking.

A few years later there was a play reading group. 5 people sharing 3 play books was the norm.

My worst experience with OT was being sent to do a cookery course during my last inpatient stay. I got chucked off it for taking too long to peel and cut potatoes. I was seen as being uncooperative. They’d obviously not heard of dyspraxia , and fine and gross motor deficits .
